How many times a week do you change bedding etc?

Just put my two into indoor cage in the conservatory.

When they were outside in their hutch I would clean them out 3 x a week as they were also in a run during day. However, now they are indoors I'm thinking that I am going to have to clean the cage everyday.

I notice lots of people use fleece - how many do you have? How often do you change the fleece and how do you clean it?

I have also noticed that their wee smells quite a bit it my be that they are going more because they are in a new environment and are a little bit unsettled but it does pong a bit even though I am changing them every day!

I change my fleece twice a week and when I wash them, I use a horse bag which means I don't get any stray poops or pieces of hay clogging my machine. I use an anti-bacterial, anti-fungal washing liquid (Halo) which can wash effectively at 30 degrees.

I currently have four fleece cage liners which have been specially made for me by Cosy Cavies.

I use newspaper and hay bedding and clean my boys out every other day. Sometime every three days if they have been particually clean!

i use hay and megazorb.

i clean them out fully once a week and change their hay every other day.

i don't think i could manage with fleece. i don't have a washing machine (we get service washes) and they wee so much, i would be changing it all the time! :)

My two boys are on a mix of aspen shavings and carefresh (or my homemade equivalent of carefresh) with a thin layer of hay on top. Full clean out once a wheek, and i replenish the top layer of hay when needed.

Thanks all - how clean are your piggies my friend has brought one of those guinea pig toilets and she says they use it!

Mine poop & wee all over the place they have never gone in one area - Is this normal or do I have two messy piggies?!

Mine tend to go where the eat and sleep, so my current cage is partly vet bed then with a giant hay box built in, the hay box is changed every other day and the vet bed every 5/6 days.

I have pairs of boys that are permanent indoor residents and are not shy about making a mess! I clean them out roughly once a week (they're currently on newspaper and ecobale cardboard bedding).

They poop wherever they lie, so their hay boxes (plastic dog beds) and the heavily-soiled areas get spot cleaned on an as-and-when basis :)

Personally, I've always found that fleece gets too stinky too quickly for me, but that's just my experience :))

I have used fleece but since I've had them on hemp I've never looked back. I much prefer it tbh. I got fed up of sweeping hay and poops off the fleece every night. I find hemp easy to spot clean and I just put a nice big pile of hay on it for them to burrow in and chomp away at.

With the fleece I used a litter tray with a hay rack but was constantly topping it up! This way I can put plenty in and just keep topping it up for them. They love playing in it and eating it at the same time! :))

When they went away for holiday boarding they went in a hutch with loose hay and bedding and it was clear how much they loved burrowing through the hay I decided that when I could I'd do a more natural set-up for them. And they do!

Hi i change the fleece twice a week, and there house bedding every other day they have barely straw which is soft and smells lovely,to water proof the fleece ive got a sheet of plastic and on top of that ive got waterproof wall paper, the thick spongy sort that you can wipe clean,so i give that a spray with animal disinfectant and wipe it away with clean water every time i change fleeces, with the barely straw there house is lined with paper but also small animal recycled litter in the places where they wee, it seems to work fine and no smells, they have fresh hay every day ...:)p

Ie recycled litter is basically paper pellets that go in litter trays or corners where yor animal wees, thought id better say that as it sounded like recycled dirty litter! Eeeeewwww!:...

I used to change it around twice a week but since getting a hay loft I have noticed the fleece lasts a lot longer, about a week give or take.

I take all the bits out, wrap up the fleece, put the towel underneath to one side and then shake and brush the fleece out as much as I can into the bottom of the cage. I sweep up all that stuff, stick it in the bin and put the new towel and fleece in :)

Oh and I changed the hay loft every 3 days as it is just hay and newspaper

All the sleeping boxes are changed every day(they are filled with newspaper and hay). The middle run about area is cleaned out every third day ,this is filled with doubed and some hay. With an average of 32 piggies running about I think this works well with very little smell other than the smell of hay and reddigrass.
