To those of you with single level hutches... How do you clean them out? By this I mean about it being so low down. Sorry if this is a stupid question!

I have a old bit of carpet to sit on, not cleaned them out in the rain as they came back inside, my oh is going to make a base for it to stand on kind like a raised decking xx

Dittos in an indoor cage which is ground level and as i have laminate flooring throughout my flat it can really hurt your knees kneeling to clean out the cage, so my grandad gave me a gardeners knee pad to kneel on and now I'm fine :)

My C&C is on ground level, you should do what i do and get OG to do it :))

i realy dont know how you can be on the floor outside i wouldnt get any cleaning done because i would be to busy checking there wasnt a spider near me :))

When i had a single story hutch my dad made some long legs for it, so i didn't have to bend down. But now i have a double story it can be a bit of an issue, as i have mild scoliosis, so the reaching and bending can be painful, but i enjoy giving them a clean home so i crouch down and get it done!;)

Shouldn't outdoor hutches be raised up off the floor anyway, to deter snooping foxes etc?

Anyway, when I had hutches before I moved the pigs to the shed my dad build a stand a couple of foot high for the above reason. Cleaning out was easy then because a wheelbarrow fitted perfectly underneath the hutch so I could just scoop everything into the barrow.

Most hutches are raised off the ground but not very high. I think that they should be higher to keep away naughty foxes! Hehe!

With the rabbits hutch outside I just sit cross legged or sit on a gardeners kneeling cushion thing :))

With the guinea pigs, I have to put a nice soft pillow down as the laminate kills my knees

Will look into one of those gardeners kneeling cushion things. Ooh I can imagine how painful kneeling on laminate must be!

I have long legs on mine!
Lucky you! Haha! All the ones I've found have really short legs!

I have one of those garden cushion whatsits which i lean onto :) Otherwise i just get mucky :)) and have a hot bath afterwards to make up for sitting in wet, soggy piggie poop!

in that case you saw off the old legs & make a separate stand for them ;)

my hutches are about 50-60cm off the ground, but it's still a pain cleaning out the bottom levels

since the herd has reduced over the years, i just don't use the bottom levels to get out of cleaning them, so the lowest level i have to clean is about 2 and a half foot off the ground :(|)

Everyone seems to be talking about these gardeners cushion thingies so i guess they're worth an investment! Yuck soggy piggie poop!

My old hutch hasn't got legs as it was a hutch with run underneath so that idea is not possible!
Mine is home made! :)
Ah that explains it then!
