Hi I've been using fleece with towels underneath. its been great. I felt confident about washing them before but now I'm starting to doubt if this is healthy for the human family. I mean the whole sharing the washing machine thing.
Obviously I wash the fleece/towels separately from our clothes. I wash them at 90c with liquid soap flakes, so not to irritated GPs noses with any sent. (I couldn't find a scentless normal detergent). I figure my efforts are working well for the GP but i wonder if my method is killing all the bacteria from their urine & droppings? its creeping me out the thought creatign a bacteria soap in the washing machine and then using it to clean our clothes....maybe in someway I'm making our clothes dirty ? Just interested in what anyone else does. thanks x

maybe you could use a horse bag to put your fleece in ,and wash an empty cycle at 90 degrees ,before you place any human washing in?dettol do an antibacterial solution which you put in the softner draw to kill all bacteria if you feel you need to be extra sure, you can get a non scented ,sensitive skin version.youll have very clean fleece !:)

@eileen has an excellent suggestion, horse wash bags are great. I'm trying to convince mum to buy one, because the fleece gets washed and the machine stays clean. Also, any germs in that machine would be gone at 90 degrees, fear not.

Horse wash bag for sure! Amazon about £15! Get the jumbo one!

I'm not worried about germs (previous cloth nappy user!) as I wash GP stuff at 60c.

Now that I've over-analysed it, is it hygienic? Water goes through bag, into dirty fleece, then out into machine...hang on though, all germs are killed in the hot wash... What genius thought up these amazing bags?! They sound absolute lifesavers!

I use vetbed but have fleece liners for under houses as well as fleece snuggle sacks, cuddle cups and tunnels. You are meant to use non bio washing detergent but even using this in various different brands at 90 I found I could still smell "pig" off the bedding after washing.

I discovered Halo non bio, it's a sports wash. I wash my bedding with this at 60 and honestly, the bedding comes out so clean that I would sleep on it! So fresh and white (I use White vetbed as I have a bladder pig so I can monitor blood in urine).

Nothing compares to this stuff, it's 100% safe for pigs and is one of very few detergents that is anti fungal as well as antibacterial.

Can't recommend it enough

You could try adding a little apple cider vinegar to your wash?
It's natural, has anti-fungal and antiseptic properties and it won't aggravate your piggies noses as it doesn't leave a scent :)
