We are experimenting with letting my current guinea pig, and her new friend who we will get soon, be free range inside the house (with a section that can be cornered off). She seems to go to the toilet pretty much exclusively in one corner of her box, and I'm just looking for some tips on how to fully toilet train her because she does go in other places around the house too sometimes.

Is cat litter OK to use?

How do you actually train them to go in one spot?

Success stories?

Thanks! :)

*Bump* Sorry to be annoying but I would love some advice if anyone has some?

Dunno, never mastered it myself. Briony will have to advise you. Her piggies only poop in a tray! Goodness knows how she does it. x

my pigs poop everywhere never got the hang of litter training.")")

Mine tend to go where they hay is so there's now a tray under the hay rack. I have a litter tray in the corner which two of them used to use until the others cae now they dont bother so am considering removing it and putting a piggie hammock there instead ;)

I must admit to never trying to do this. But I have some pigs that poop in areas like Leia and Lyra will poop behind their igloo! Not sure you can do it like with rabbits but its maybe worth a go! If only all mine would do this would save me a lot of cleaning! :)

What you need to do is get some soiled bedding with both wee and poos in it and put it in a corner litter tray in the corner they prefer! Then put a layer of hay round the edge of the tray and a hay rack above. They will sit munching whilst they wee which incourages them to stay there!

It worked for me in the playpen up until recently when I couldn't be bothered to do it anymore! You will get the occasional accident. George was so good he got to the point when I would notice his stance and no he was weeing in middle of the pen and I would tell him off and he would stop! :))

My girls were all perfectly litter trained all winter. They lived in indoor cages in the living room and when it was floor time they only went in the one spot on some paper under a chair. Ever since I moved them outside into a new hutch for summer (about 3 weeks ago) they have decided to rebell and now wee wherever they fancy when I bring them in! Luckally they still don't wee on me but tell me when they need to get down!

Good luck cos I have no idea what caused them to be so good and now so bad!

Well I got a shoebox and filled it with shredded newspaper and some hay on a little platform (I will try and get a hayrack soon) and put some of her droppings in there...no luck yet but it's only been one night. She doesn't seem to like going in there. I will try and get a tray when I can. She does seem to go in a corner so I'm hoping she will go in there too! Tricky, isn't it? Thanks for the advice.
