Hello! I have been having trouble with handling my piggy. When ever I pick him up he makes a big fuss and then is nervous for about four days afterward.
When i first got him he would let me hold him and that bond seemed to go away after a while.

I was just wondering if anyone had some advise for the best way to get him used to handling and socializing.

Thanks!

Yes I would like to know as well. I have three male piggy's I'm having trouble socializing two of them!

My piggies still make a bit of a fuss whenever i try to get them out but they seem find once there out.
Do you have any cuddle sacks or fleecey blankets they can cuddle up in when they're out with you ?
Guinea pigs love feeling safe so being cuddled up in something cosy is the best way to win there trust, my newest piggy Marmite loves my mums fluffy dressing gown so she use to wear that and he'd snuggle up on her shoulder.
Some people recommend short and often with piggy handling for a new pig but i prefer to keep them out for a while as the stress of getting them out isn't pleasant for them so maybe if your watching a film or just something on tv something get a nice fleecey blanket and let them snuggle up, also the fleece will stop any pee from getting on you ! and poops !
Marmite enjoyed just being there with the sound of the Tv at first he didn't really like the sound of us talking so maybe try just a really relaxing sit down dimmed lights maybe in the evening.
Don't forget food is the way to a piggies heart ! Marmite wouldn't let us hand feed at first where as Bentley and Chester have always done that, so i guess it depends on the piggy. Offer them some food and if they don't take it just leave it in front of them and allow them to sniff it and eat it in there own time (:

My guinea pigs are both different , my ginger one is calm & likes a cuddle & is easy to pick up but my black one is a nightmare! she hates being picked up & Will squeak & claw me until i put her down! she Will come on my lap but hates being stroked so i let her carry on.
i do occassionally get her to go into her snuggled sack to be picked up but i think she is wise to it now :)
just give them time & lots of patience & treats if they do let * pick them up
they Will come around in time
let us know how * get on :)

I think your piggie is an outside piggie? I read another one of your posts and it said he was outside. Bring him in and he will get to see you more. And get a social rescue piggie. A roll model never hurts!

I'd say the best thing to do is to take your guinea pig out of its cage and just hold it close to your chest. You can also place your piggy next to you on a bed or couch. Softly talk to him or her and plenty of petting! You might want to hold a piece of hay in your hand a maybe feed it to him or her if they are hungry.
