Junior Guinea Pig
Hi all,
I have a boar trio that I finally (knock on wood) think I have managed to bond because they sorted out their heirarchy as Reptar then Lion and Maximus my bottom piggy! I have three igloo huts for them that they haven't used since I initiated the bonding process of bonding the third boar into the bonded pair. I didn't use them because I felt my third boar was not socializing enough and it was causing conflict because my alpha wanted to kick him out of it. At night I give them all cuddle cups to sleep in but they really don't use them much, they prefer sleeping on their fleece/pee pads!
Last night I thought I would give the huts another chance since I know they would really love each having a hidey spot again. Immediately my bottom piggy (Max) went into one and laid down, my third boar Lion who is my second in line from the alpha Reptar immediately went into the bigger hut which is so weird because it was like he remembered it and missed having it! (I got him a larger one since he is so much bigger than my other two). My alpha decided to scope out the situation and went into the third hut but started moving it around. But like I thought would happen he came out and went to Lion (way on the other side of the cage) in the big hut, smelled him and would walk away and come back. When Lion left his hut to snack on hay Reptar closed in on his hut and flipped it. I turned it back over and turned off the lights for bedtime and this morning it was flipped again! Why does he do this?! He doesn't look or bother with Maximus but he seems so intent on going into Lion's bigger hut and flipping it! Is there something I can do to keep them from doing this? Should I tape some heavy weights to the top of the huts?
