The smallest cage I have is a 100cm one for a small lone boar, I would never have a cage smaller than that but just look at what Ferplast are trying to sell as a guinea pig cage! It's length is 58cm and it is just 38cm wide, I find it sickening to think people would buy this for their piggy. Imagine if someone put 2 piggies in there...oooh it doesn't bare thinking about. :... I just wish they would give cage manufacturers guidelines, maybe that the minimum size for guinea pig cage should be 100cm long?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

That is very bad, I must say that I didn't come across any guidelines when shopping for a cage and brought what I thought to be a decent size as it's one that p@h sell as well. Wish I had found this site sooner and paid a bit extra for a bigger one

Do you think it might be for those who show their GPs? I have never been to one but I emagine they would have them in smaller cages for the show. I notice though there was nothing in the way of guidence other than it said "save space", you're telling me!

We sell these at work :( Although we always tell the person buying it that it should only be used for isolation and short periods of time.. still very sad though. I've never sold one.

That is TINY!

My 'hospital/nursery' cage is bigger than that, and I don't like them in that for more than is absolutely necessary!

I had a look at the rest of the guinea pig section. The horrible thing is that the biggest cage they sell for guinea pigs is 100x58cm not even the minimum 120x60cm. Does it not occur to these people they will get more money if they sell bigger cages that cost more and point out they are the minimum RSPCA standards. There are loads of uneducated people out there who want to do right by their pets but think these cages are ok.

OMG thats terrible! and so small.. although ideal for transporting an animal though. I wouldnt know what would live in that anyway?! :{

esther x

My hamster is in a cage this size and even then I think he could do with bigger mallethead

I honestly don't understand why animal cages and hutches in the UK dont have mandatory labels citing the maximum number of animals to be kept in it, what KIND of animals it is suitable for and what it is suitable for ie; housing or transport/recovery :[

That is tiny.

I think there should have more guidelines in this country about what size cages animals should be in and be made to put into every petshop and place that sells cages/hutches, I am probably wishful thinking here.

Hopefully commonsense would show that is too small for a guinea pig to live in as a proper home I would say that was a hamster cage.
