Hello, just curious as to how I could potty train my little 3 1/2 week old baby boys? I will be purchasing an inddor hutch very soon and wonder if the toilets are any good or what to buy and how to do it?! Our hamster was easy we put it in the area he used to go to the toilet with some dirty shavings he'd peed on in it and bingo is it/can it me that easy for pigs too?

Because they're young, still pretty skittish and in a huge hutch compared to them in the day right now I'm not sure how realistic it is but getting more prepared for the inside bit!

if you manage it then give me some tips please :)) I use a corner litter tray with a layer of sawdust and then topped with a big pile of hay and they wee a lot in there but they just tend to go wherever they want or so it seems :)

Mine mainly poo and wee where they eat. The area around their food bowls can get messy very quickly, so I put a box under their hay rack and they do most of their business is there ... but that's as close as I've come to potty training and poos turn up around the house in the craziest places haha :{

Mine are fairly good for that.

They do tend to poop all over the place, but they always go back to the same place to wee.

I got this advice from youtube - that guinea's tend to wee where they feel safe, and like to wee in places that are covered, discreet and where they can back themselves up but see out.

I used a basic shallow cat litter tray, filled with newspaper and hay. I put it inside a box (not a massive box, just one that fitted it right, so they had some height but it felt enclosed) just outside the cardboard box but before the cat litter tray ends, I have a dangling hay rack. So they basically, go in do their business and munch on the clean hay at the same time. Around the box I also put towels, they do wee on them too - probably because it's quite dark round their too, but so far, neither of them has wee'd on their fleece or in any space that's out in the open.

They do generally go and seek out the towels, bless them.

That method for litter training worked well for me, basically give them a great bathroom area and they will use it :)

ps- I situated their dining area at the opposite area to the bathroom. They don't wee or poop where their food is - I think this is because it's a very open spaced part of the cage with no hidey's or towels. They have a hay rack too in their 'dining room' - but they don't eat as much from this one as they do from their toilet area hay rack.

I just worked out how to do pics! Here's what I mean when I was describing their loo - the box with the hanging hay rack, and that's mostly where they go :) Sometimes they slip down the side and pee on the towel, but they've learnt to always go on the towel or the box! and the rest of the cage is free from pee! yayyyyy, haha.
