I would love your idea/tips on how I can improve the boys home.

Do you think could I make/buy some little ramps/platforms to give them more space, if so, how would I go about making it?

I'm not good at things like this so any help would be brill!

Basically, I want to make more living space for them until I can track down a a better indoor cage to buy.

Hi

what about tryng to add another level with a ramp going up you may be able to fix some wood in it! toiley roll tubes in there they like to chew them up.

Not sure if I am doing it wrong or not but I don't think the hay rack is the right way round on yours. I have mine on the outside with the hay showing through the bars if you get what I mean...

Not sure about adding floors and ramps, I would be interested to know too! :)

L.O.L! I only put the hay rack on yesterday...I was wondering why all the hay was falling on the floor when the boys went to "tuck in". Going to go downstairs now a fix it ....THANK YOU!

Thats a good idea about the ramps! I'm going to look into that. I wonder thou how I would attach the wood to the cage thou to make it really safe etc..?

Thanks for the good tip!

Hiya. I did this to my old cage

I used c&c grids BUT you could cable tie a baking tray to the sides of the cage to make a second floor and then make some kind of a box for them to stand on and to make sure they didn't fall off (does that make sense?)

Here are ramps (ignore the cage - the ramps are sold seperately)

They have these too

But they again don't have a lip / ledge to stop the guineas falling off and being round they don't give that much room. BUT if you could modify it to be safe it could be fun, you could have a couple and have pellets on one and veggies on another? Give them something etra to do?

In our upstairs we had all the food. It was lined with newspaper and filled with hay and I also put the pellets and veggies up there. Then downstairs was for running and room.

Your cage is perfect for an upstairs too - it's really tall.

Thanks for the great tips! Love the idea of a 2nd floor going to ask my dad if he can help me out (what am I like I'm the wrong side of 20!).

I'm not really sure what C&C grids are (never heard of them in Ireland) what are they? are they easy to get? Could I also make a platform out of them,if not and I had to make a wooden platform is there any type of wood I should use to keep everyone safe?

xx

Not sure about getting the grids - they are the ones used to fashion a c&c cage. I'll find you a link soon.

You could make a wooden one definitely, not sure what kind though. Plywood would be okaY I think but not MDF (someone correct me if i'm wrong).

Just make sure they can't fall off either the ramp or the top floor

I did exactly the same with Pheobe and Ruby's hay rack at first! Pheobe used to jump in it and tuck in but Ruby's not that athletic!

When I got my first gp in 2007 I had never had gps before (sadly he passed away with 2 months) but I put the hay rack like that at first, I thought it was a bed for them mallethead

An easy and cheap cage hack would be to find a piece of wood that's as slim and narrow as the space between the wires on one of the sides. Then you could just slide it in between the wires. It would be totally safe if you also made a little dent underneath so that it would sort of sit there. A little piggy shelf, kinda. Space over and space under! I use my stick tunnel for a ramp, it can be bent like that.

I had a similar problem when I couldn't put the piggies outside for a little while. I found that cutting holes in cardboard boxes and making little 'environments' for them to run about in held off the boredom. It might be something to think about while you get your new one.

Hi I dont really have anything constructive although what is that cages name ?

Georgie-porgie,

The cage is called a Rabbit Joe and is made by FOP I bought mine in Dublin for €125.00.

Hope this helps!

i would use the round hooks you can use to fix a net wire up with and screw them into each end of the wooden platform/shelf get some little chain and fasten two to each side and clip it on the bars at the top you can add little clips on the ends of the chains to attach... if you know what i mean :)):))...
you tend to get the chains on the plastic tunnels you can buy which hang on to a cage.....hope you understand what i mean mallethead mallethead mallethead
also you could build like a floating shelf etc but fasten a small piece of wood to the out side so it acts has a clamp against the bars
