How are the C&C cages from Amazon?

Does anybody know if the C&C cages from Amazon are any good? I'm mostly concerned about the coating on the metal because my guinea pig loves to bite the metal on his current cage (a cheap Kaytee one, I think).

I'd like to get him a bigger cage and introduce a second guinea pig but we need a bigger cage so I thought about upgrading to C&C.

Following because I’m wondering the same…

Do you need a solid base with it? I have the grids but because my boys are on the floor I didn't need a solid base, so no correx. I got a sheet of tarp and cut it to size, so it catches wayward disposable bedding and hay, but stops urine and poop and whatever getting on the floor itself. And it was cheaper than trying to find a correx or similar solid base.

I can’t have them on a floor because I have a cavalier King Charles Spaniel who wants to play with them! So I need them to be high up! I was thinking a correx or something easy to clean xx

Doesn't necessarily need to be correx either - what you want is something solid which could be correx or something like wood, and then have a layer over that. If that makes sense.

I have the Amazon Basics grids - they’re sold as cube storage rather than animal cage but have 9x9 squares in each grid. Ive got correx and nibble guards but they still bar bite. The worst attacked grid is the door grid which is a slightly different shape and the only one that actually isn’t Amazon but from a specialist piggie C&C cage supplier. The coating is patchy in places 😢

I also have Amazon Basics grids. They are good quality. I tried to disconnect one of the weldings and my finger turned purple, it would not come apart. I have bought 6 packs of the 6 cubes size. They come with more connectors than listed, so I had no need to buy more. Then I have Kavee coroplast, I am trying to buy a Cagetopia coroplast since the sides are higher, but it has not shipped yet so I don’t know what is up with them.

I can see how guinea pigs will chew the coating off, I have never had a bar bitting problem before. I feel with any grid they could figure out how to chew them though. They will nibble on any metal they are given so I don’t think that should really hold you up from any decisions on cages.

I don’t think they will ever get sick by eating the plastic coating one most of the grids for sale, (correct me if I am wrong) considering how thin and how little the grids have in them.

Please make sure you get him a bigger cage since he is a male, and him and a partner need a big cage to minimalise any and all fighting. I like 2 by 5 C&C cages for two males. Also, is he alone currently?

Definitely keep the cage off of the floor if you have any pets to reduce risk of disease and injury.

Coroplast is my favorite base since it is nontoxic. Wood is commonly treated with chemicals that are harmful, and it will also shrivel up when liquid sits on it.

Here is my set up:

I’ve had a huge amount of bar biting over the years and the white coating is gone on parts of my cage but doesn’t seem to have caused any harm. There’s no way I can pass on the grids once we lose Jenny though as they look dreadful if I’m honest.

I also have Amazon grids. I bought 2 boxes and returned one. I HATE these grids. The connectors are trash. They don't connect properly or they slide out. I had to reinforce everything with zip ties. I know that is normally recommended anyway, but on my other c&c they are not reinforced w/ zip ties and do just fine. Putting grids together should be easy, but no, I spent WAY too much time trying to assemble a cage and it kept slipping apart because the connectors are not the right size.

Aside from that, one grid came with a section already broken and the coating chips very easy. I hated the grids so much that I sent back the other box. I would never EVER recommend Amazon Basics grids.
