Just wondering how active are your piggies as ours seem to live the life of reilly. During the morning when we enter the living room we see the odd eyelid lift and then nothing until they here the kettle turned on in the kitchen. Then the morning chorus starts until they get their morning chunk of cucumber.

Then quiet until morning veggies then they burst out of the cage (opened as we get up so they can have floor time) and follow to the kitchen door. Then a race back to the cage for breakfast.

Then its siesta. When we get home (we leave about 8 and I get back about 4.30) cage is opened and they may decide to have a quick wonder if it doesnt disturb the siesta too much.

If a plastic bag is rattled its as though someone has lit a firecracker up their backsides otherwise its back to siesta. In fact Astro our rescue boar has perfected the art of lying in the hay tray and occasionally lifting his head to have a munch.

Are other peoples piggies as lazy, its not as if they dont have floor time, as the cage is open to the floor 9 hours a day.

Mine are both young, so I may get a LITTLE more activity out of them, but they are pretty lazy. Sleep, eat, sleep, eat, punctuated by games of follow-the-leader and chasing one another.

They wake up usually about 3-4 IN THE MORNING (thanks chaps) for a little game of chase, usually after sleeping more or less through the night. Then back to sleep for a bit. I wake up at 5 or 6 depending on my work shift. Head to kitchen, squeaking ensues. They'll run around a bit in their cage until I feed the morning veg and top up their hay, then will sit in their forage tray munching away for 40 minutes or so.

Sleep time! I work during the day, mostly, but when I am on a day off, I observe... sleep time. Every few hours they take an eating break, then maybe a little lap round the cage, then more sleep time. Sometimes Machu just passes out, in the open, in the forage tray mid-eating break.

They usually have a pretty crazy period early evening, around feeding time. Lots of follow-the-leader, chasing, popcorning, squeaking, general craziness.

They have been in the playpen for 2 hours while I clean the cage and the people-house just now. They ate for the first ten minutes, played for another 10 or so minutes, then just curled up for the rest. They were AWAKE for most of it, but they weren't doing anything. I think they were cold and snuggling together for warmth though. They're now in their clean cage, in the pigloo, on their snugglesafe pad, because obviously all that sitting wore them out.

Mine are pretty dozy much of the time. They do get up and wheek for treats/food but will spend most of their day relaxing. Because they don't have a huge enclosure, while the kids are at school I often open the cage to give them the run of the hallway and unless there are snacks out or I actually sit in the hallway with them, they are apt to go back in the cage and nap after a few minutes! They do tend to be more active during evening playtime, especially with snacks and if they kids are watching them. For some reason they really like an audience, even Linney who is the oldest at almost 4 will popcorn and get frisky for an audience!

I've spent many full days with my two pigs.

They get up around 5am and mooch around until breakfast (around 6am), then sleep until 12ish, and mooch around for 20 minutes or so, then sleep until 5pm when they get fed, then ... sleep for a little bit.

They run like the wind during their hour long floor time which is between 6 and 8 pm, then they just sleep and mooch until around 10pm. It's a good life for a pig!

PS Even when I take them out for a cuddle they tend to just go asleep on me now :)

Yup! I have 6 boars and they all love nothing better than sleeping! The only one who loves to play and run is the baby, but he will grow out of it :)) It's normal, they're renowned for lazyness!

Mine spend quite a while sleeping. On weekends I notice they're most active first thing in the morning and last thing before I go to bed.
When they're active though, they're nuts! I'd probably have to go snoozies if I popcorned around my house like that. :)

I gather this is the norm - mine too are pretty lazy. They are very playful and chase eachother early in the morning and then again inthe evening (usually around breakfast time and dinner time). They are pretty quiet most of the afternoon and sleep a hell of a lot. They go completely crazy when they hear the fridge door open or food wrappings, they start wheeking - it is hilarious, i love it....so cute.
