After the incident next door (fox had their rabbit) I am pondering this set up for the girls. They have a really big hutch, complete with hugger I have just bought them. Plan was to leave them in that when weather gets warmer They also have a grass run. But now I am thinking big hutch/run in the day, and I can just fit a smaller hutch in the outside porch so in that in the evening. I couldnt live with myself if a fox got them....Hubby isnt very keen, says I am making work for myself. Berties cage is in the conservatory which is really small and houses Bertie, small freezer and washing machine. No heating in outside porch so no problems with temperature change. What do you reckon? Am I being an overprotective piggie person. Amazing thing is we live in a terraced house with walled gardens, son saw a squirrel yesterday! I shall look out one day and there will be a bear out there! ps at the moment girls are in back bedroom!

I dont think you can ever be to careful or over protective. I personally wouldn't house my piggies outside for the worry of temperature changed, and wild animals getting to them, or even thugs wanting their kicks... i would just not take the risk. Mine are indoors and always will be (unless outside supervised in a run)

xx

Yes, mine are the same. A big indoor run & then supervised outdoor run when the weather is OK. It's a bit awkward at present as my 4 girls couldn't be bonded as a group so they're in pairs & I try to give them 30 minutes per pair at least on the front lawn. Our next door neighbour saw a weasel in their back garden last week. I just wouldn't sleep if they were outside. I know everyone can't manage this but a secure shed would be the minimum if they can't be kept indoors.

I would keep mine inside even if I had a garden, I'd worry too much.

I make a lot of work for myself too, but I wouldnt have it any other way. My 12 Pigs are outside in the sunshine (6 runs) when its a nice day and I get them all back in every night. Foxes arent an issue here, but if they were I'd be very very anxious.

ok thanks. They have had grass time this afternoon, that was very scary! for the girls not me. Now they are in their outside hutch, and come bed time in the small porch cage!

They do make me smile. They have settled into a routine already. I get them out and put them in their outside hutch about 8, they have veggies then. Middle of afternoon they have grass time, and I can sit and have a cuppa and watch them doing zoomies round the run! After about an hour Jeni was trying to attract my attention, so I put them back in their outside hutch. About 8 pm I put them in their bedtime hutch, They are now completely undisturbed by all this toing and froing. Not even scared of big dog looking at them....good girls...
