Hello si I just recently finished redoing peanuts cage so that it is the more standard 2 by 4 cage to allow her more space and though I do love it a lot It would be far more economical for my house if she were to be able to use a multi level cage. That being said I wanted to check on here first and get some opinions from people who have more experience owning guinea pigs to see if a multi leveled cage would be something that could work for her or if I just have to work on downsizing my furniture to accommodate peanuts new house. Also very exciting news for people who have seen me on here before I have started the adoption process for a friend for peanut which was unfortunately put off until the local quarentine is lifted but after that shell have a friend with her as well.

I have 4x2 c&c cages with a small 2x1 loft and a 5x2 cage with a 2x2 loft. I (or I should say my OH) made a ramps out of some square guttering with carpet tile on it for grip - but make it as long as you can as piggies tend not to like steep gradients. You could make one and see if Peanut will use it - it sometimes it takes a bit of time but they do get the hang of it - or they don’t and aren’t interested at all. Of my four cages, three use their lofts constantly whereas only one pig in the fourth cage occasionally uses the loft and the other has never used it - though she is a stroppy madam!

Some piggies may use a loft, but some wont- as piggies are ground dwelling animals you need to keep the minimum 4x2 floor space, any lofts are a bonus if they use them but dont count towards the minimum floor space needed at grounf level.
Good luck with your adoption, great that you are getting your piggy a friend!

Even if you give your piggies an upstairs they will need a 2x4 downstairs anyway. My piggies have a 3x4 cage with a 1x3 upstairs and even though they love their upstairs and use it a lot they can't run around up their so they need the larger space for when they get zoomies or just wan to explore. I had to give up having a dining room table for my boys.

My piggy has a little hut with steps on it so she can climb on it and she loves climbing up there and bopping off it does it for hours
