So I'm thinking of options of housing the pigs for when I move, as that's the largest factor in whether we choose one house over another at the moment rolleyes

The problem I have, is housing a terrier with the pigs.

I was thinking of ways that I could house the pigs, and came up with the potential idea of housing them in insulated, heated sheds (one shed per pair - actually housing them in the shed, rather than hutches inside a shed), with an individual run area for each pair of pigs? Kind of like a terraced piggy street?! I have drawn an illustration of my idea so that you can visualise it (ok, I'm bored!)

Can you house pigs in a shed like that? It would be insulated and heated and stuff, but I guess the only problem is damp? I think I'd probably have lino or similar down on the floor/lower part of the walls to make it easier to clean, would that stop it being damp? Are sheds generally raised off of the floor?

Ideas? Suggestions?

Thanks!

shed

our rabbits are in a shed, we raised the floor level and put lino on it to keep out damp. also put insulation in the roof and gave them a nesting box they love it
:-) only space big enough for them to run.the piggies are in the shed next door, they are in three hutches though, with a heather for when its cold. its really good to keep the there cause they like seeing each other, they have easy access to the garden especially the rabbits, clean house and we can have my mums dog without worrying :-) rabbit shed is also good cause you can sit and interact with them.

with fleece before their box.

With my shed, damp is always going to be an issue. They need ventilation which will do most of the job, and our radiator did the rest. Now it's getting finer they don't need the radiator (as much) and the damp hasn't returned.

I do like your idea but that seems like an expensive way to do it. I'm not sure how many pairs you have but I would be tempted to go for one large shed that you can section off inside - a 12x10 where you can create 4x8 enclosures with enough space for you to be able to walk down and do whatever you need to do with them. You can do the same outside with a run - one biiiig run, separated into however many sections you need. It would be cheaper to heat too - our shed has added an extra £100 a month to the heating bill over winter (needless to say I'm not in my mum and dads' good books right now) - so heating more than one separate, reasonably large airspace, will get pricy over the winter months when everything else is that much more expensive too!

They do need to be raised off the floor, mine is on a wooden 3x2 inch (the wood) frame to keep it off the ground. If they're going on grass you'd probably need a flag base (we looked into that as an option for mine and it came to at least £150 for a proper 10x6 base) AND the wood base for stability. It all depends on how well drained the garden is though.

Hope that helps! :)

Our boys live here :)):)) It is fully insulated and now has a stable door with mesh net for ventilation

our rabbit shed cost about £36 and about a weeks hard work, but it isn't separated just one big space...

one winter we filled the bottom of our shed with sawdust ( on the floor there's tiles ) and then placed a a hutch with the doors open on the floor with bedding water food etc etc the shed had a lock a light and a heater ( which can be controlled from our house so through out the night they get blasts of warm air ) and its the best idea i ever had ( well i think so ) also during the day we put them in there outdoor run but in the morning when the grounds frosty they can run on the shed floor :D

You're shed is amazing! What did you use to insulate it? Have you Made the hutches yourself?

What size is it? How many do you keep in there?

I am planning a piggy shed at the moment so would like some advice! Xx

My shed is the best thing I ever got. At the moment, my gang live in hutches inside the shed. If my numbers increase over the next week, the wife says we can keep them and I'll have to rejig the shed and build hutches into it and get shut of the free standing ones.
