Good afternoon!

This is a bit of a weird question, but.. If you house guinea pigs in a big shed, do they need to be inside a hutch? :red Is it possible to just give them a big hidey home but otherwise let them be sort of free reign, or inside a fenced area in the shed?

Or is that just a silly idea?

That should be fine :) as long as they have a hidey house to hide in. Something that will keep them warm, like a little wooden house :)

The piggies will love the space, just to add, line the floor also with something waterproof to stop the wood getting icky.
Lino or Correx :)

Oh and just have something to stop them running out the door when you open it :))

Hi,
My two are in a C&C run in the shed, it means i can just go in and not worry about them dashing for freedom, i sit in there with my cup of tea watching them snuffle about, very relaxing. I can prop the door open and put the lid of their outdoor run across the doorway for fresh air, so long as i am about.
They seem very happy, they have a tunnel, pigloo, wooden arch and plastic box to hide in.

Mine roam free within a c&c structure.

Hey all, thanks so much for the responses! Sorry I've been so slow to reply, been busy with the new house and such.

I'm so happy to hear this! I'm now planning on lining the shed floor with something like lino, and today I'm going to go and look at runs (with the shed measurements) as I'm considering using a run in there, sort of like a make-shift C&C cage with a roof, just to give a bit of extra safety and protection.
Then I can just fill the run with their usual substrate, a nice big, warm hidey house and lots of snuggly bits. I'll also work on insulating the walls.

Thanks again! :D
