Hey everyone,
I hope that we are all well! Well, we've just got two adorable little ladies this evening, and they are settling into their home. I haven't really bothered them tonight, just letting them adjust, not that they have ventured out yet.
Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had any pictures of their shed set up? We bought a hutch from Amazon, but it is not suitable to be used outside as it doesn't have an enclosed bottom and I didn't realise that the Guinea pigs would need some time to get used to a ramp.
So, we're going to buy a shed and let them have the full run of it! I'm going to put lino on the bottom to protect the wood, and was thinking of using fleece!
Has anyone got any tips on how to best home them in this way? We were going to keep them inside, but after doing lots of reading on here I would only be happy to keep them in a c and c cage, but unfortunately we do not have enough space. Well we do, but my husband doesn't want them in the living room and I have to respect his wishes there!
I will post pics when the girls are more comfortable here xx

They'll be in the cage inside at night, and when the weather picks up, the hutch on the grass in the day. Pegged down with tent pegs. 20160225_142732.webp 20160215_212802.webp

Wow, that looks amazing! We won't have heating in there, at least not at first, but will be using snugglesafe heat pads and lots of bedding! The hutch will be in the shed with the cover on too. Does that sound like it will be suitable? Thanks for the link, I'll have a look though at all the other pictures x

In my opinion, being in shed is better than outdoors as you can protect your guineas from the damp and drafts better.

My three girls are free roaming in my 21(?) sq foot shed , built specially for them!
This pic is taken from the outside, so so does have some weird reflecty bits!

Directly below the window are two hay trays (which tbh try don't really use!) there is another widow, which can open - with security mesh for safety - on the left side and the stable door, also on the left, has an inner, aviary style, mesh door with a step-over. I've lined the floor with lino and fitted a fantastic solar light. They have loads of hay at the far end and a SnuggleSafe

Wow, that's amazing, thank you for posting the pic for me! That's just the thing I'd love to create! We're going to buy a 7 x 5 foot shed and add mesh to the door to leave it open when it's warm, will look for sheds with an opening window too! Excited xx

Glad you have found the responses helpful :) Looking forward to seeing your setup, when it's done

My Profile pic is one of my sheds, although it's evolved a little since then....my set up (in both sheds) is as follows:
Lino on the floor, covered with shavings...i have a hutch that is open and they can jump in and out of, this is useful when cleaning out as i clean this first then they all go in it while i clean the rest of the shed......there are several hidies all stuffed with straw, i also cover these with a fleecy blanket or towel when cold, i have a platform and several tubes in the middle and spread the lot with Hay, they eat it but trample a lot of it down into nests etc, which is super cute!......both sheds are insulated with that silver bubble wrap stuff and the lino comes up the sides about a foot from the floor to block drafts, in one of the sheds which is colder for some reason (i have thermometers on the wall) i have carpeted the walls as well as the silver stuff and given them an extra fleecy area covered with a towel, there are less piggies in there so not as much snuggling going on.........in both sheds i have also started hanging a couple of hot water bottles from the roof with a dog lead just before i go to bed on the super cold nights, and cover the window with a blanket, this seems to keep any chill off......i have 2 types of thermometer in each shed one on the wall and one i can put in a hidy for a while to check temp, some times i think it's colder than it is because my head is at the top of the shed and they're at the bottom quite a lot warmer............whenever i go in there's usually at least one or two of them lounging on top of a hidy or in a nest of hay, so i think they're warm enough! Hope that helps.....

That's helped a lot, thank you very much! I'm so excited to get started, but need a few weeks to save for the shed! I'm super impatient so am finding this difficult, haha! I will create a thread with progress as soon as we get the shed, I cannot wait! x

It's hands down the best thing I ever did, we have a field so I'm slowly spreading into it, have just embarked on building a network of runs connected by tunnels from each shed for the summer! It's my happy place!

Forgot to say, I got all my carpet and Lino free (apart from the big bit) from a local carpet shop, they usually have scraps, and when I say scraps they're usually pretty big pieces so try there for insulation

what beautiful ladies! Good luck with your shed venture. Mine live in a hutch in the shed, do wish I could give them the full run of the shed but I rent so not really an option :td:

I have 14 in 2 herds, 10 in the Boswell herd (Paddy Boswell is head of the herd) and 4 so far in the Greyjoy herd ( Theon Greyjoy is head of that herd, at least he will be when he gets over his op)..... I have a Facebook page if you want a nosey....its Colne Valley Cavies :-)

I'll have a look! I said to my husband that I wanted to get another sow when the shed is done, he said three is my maximum! Haha x

Three is a nice number, my shed would feel a bit empty with a pair. But I'm not tempted to add more!

Somehow I missed this lovely picture before of Marigold and Buttercup. They are beautiful. How are they settling in @Cleyres

They're doing great thanks, still a little shy but seem to have settled well! I'm just looking forward to getting their shed when the weather is better!

They love nightly floor time! The dog doesn't love being banished from the room though! x

Lovely ladies. So glad they are settling. They will lose their shyness in time if you carry on just as you are doing. :)

Those pens are amazingly versatile. I use them outside with a cover over the top and an old towel pinned round the side to give shade, and inside when I want to keep the little blighters from getting up to mischief.

I have my shed spilt in half, so I have a single sow on the top half (5ft by 3 ft area) and a boar pair on the bottom (5ft by 4ft area) x

I love your wee hut/house thing....where did you get this from? I am just about to start building my shed so my 10 ladies can 'free range' and am looking for ideas. I really like the idea they can all climb in to the wee hut and cuddle up, safe and cosy! Is your shed insulated at all?

Hi, no it's not insulated but it's very well built and is noticeably a more pleasant temp inside! The hut is from rabbit-hutches.co.uk. Their Hideaway Hutch. I've seen similar huts elsewhere too. My pigs don't go in it! They sleep under it - naturally and will only hop in and out if I out food in there. And they eat the legs. The ramp it quite slippy and I think a carpet/similar addition to the ramp would be a good idea, I just haven't got round to it yet

Hi. Which solar light did you get? I'm looking to get one for my shed

My hutches are built into the back of my shed as you can see in this photo. During nice weather, the door is left open so they can come and go as they please. When its cold, I shut the door and the rabbits use the rabbit flap. ;)

It's the SolarHub16 from solartechnology.co.uk I have a thread called Solar Powered Shed (I can't link to it from my phone) which has more details about it
