Teenage Guinea Pig
As some of you may have read in a previous thread about Cookie possibly being a carrier of an illness and the fact he maybe living alone for a while until we get down the bottom of it due to it been too risky for us to house him with another pig, as much as I would love to we cant.
Cookie is on medication for two weeks to see if his runny eyes clear up if they do we will have to wait another 2 weeks to see if it comes back and if his runny eyes don't clear then more investigation may be done.
In the meantime Cookie is living alone outside in a double story hutch, I am constantly worrying about him being lonely and cold. I do my best to give him attention but obviously with college, work and other commitments it can be a struggle. I see him first thing in a morning and give him a fuss and on an evening when I'm home from college around 4.30 I bring him inside for his veggies for 10/15 minutes, but I don't know whether I'm doing the right thing or not bringing him in from the cold in to a warmish room then back outside, even though its not for a long period of time.
I have a spare large cage which we have room for in the house and I was thinking whether to bring him inside for the winter so I can give him more attention as people are constantly walking through the room and he loves humans so much. But if I housed him inside it means he wouldn't be able to have a friend until the warmer weather comes which means he will be alone for sometime, but that maybe the case anyway if we don't get down to the bottom of the possibility if Cookie's a carrier. Would bringing him in from his hutch which his always known to an indoor cage cause more stress for him? Also if we housed him indoor for this winter does it mean he'll never be able to live outside in the winter ever again?
Its such a dilemma and I'm so stressed about it everyday, I just don't know what to do the best for Cookie, I just want him to be happy He is eating his veggies and he must be active around the hutch because there's lots of poops down the bottom of the hutch! He is also the perfect weight the vet said and I'm weighing him every other day just to be sure his weight is stable.
