I recently got two female guinea pigs for my birthday.. one is 6 weeks old and one is 11 weeks old. I got the biggest cage they had in the shop - white post farm - which i believe is 120cm long, and my first thought we're that the cage was huge. But now.. not so much. I was originally going to get a hamster, but i fell in love with the guinea pigs so i therefore didnt do any research, and its only now that i've been spending hours watching youtube videos and finding out about these c & c cages.

I do really want to upgrade to a c&c cage, but for now do you think it'l be ok for them in there cage i have now? I've been taking them out everday and letting them run around the front room. I've been thinking of putting a ramp on the front door and then having a play pen for them just to give them a little more space to explore. - The play pen wouldnt be available permanently though, as it would be infront of my door so would only be when I'm in my room, but i suppose it still gives them a little more space?

Cheers guys :)

120cm is the ideal for 2 pigs especially if they are having floortime aswell, and if you can do the playpen idea too then that's good. I think the rule is the more space the better but for now what they have is fine.

Welcome to the forum.

Your cage seems fine for two girls. By all means upgrade to a c&c cage if you wish but they should have enough room in the cage you have, especially if you were to add a run.

Welcome to the forum OP, my own guinea pigs have a ferplast 120 cage. It for me was a comprimise between attention and cage space. To fit them in my living room I have a 4 ft alcove so naturally the 120cm cage fits just perfectly, to have bigger they'd have to be in my spare room which has no tv, no seats nothing at all so isnt really a nice space to spend hours in. This way they get cuddles off 3 people a day and can be monitored for health a lot easier :D

Mine are in my room.. but i pretty much live in here when I'm home..and then the rest of my family always come and say hello and have cuddles :)

Just given them there veg breakfast and they are chattering away. :DD

Congratulations on becoming a new piggie owner :)

I have my two sows in a 120cm store-bought cage. They have been in a C&C cage in the past, but in my current situation I just don't have the room for a bigger cage so the store-bought cage will have to suffice. I think they have enough room considering they aren't very active piggies, and they get let out every day for floor time so have the opportunity to stretch their legs if they want to (which is more than can be said for a lot of owners with large C&C cages who often disregard daily floor time). I wouldn't stress too much about the cage you have at the moment. As long as you provide enough enrichment and let them out for floor time every day, they will be happy.

That being said - the bigger your cage the better! Perhaps you could try and negotiate with your family and see if you can move them to another area of the house where you can attach the playpen as a permanent fixture, or even build a new C&C cage?

Thanks PiggieLove :)

We originally we're going to home them in the dining room.. but we have the cat and dog food in there so we got worried it may cause problems, but that is definitely something to consider and I'm sure my mum would be ok with moving them in the future so i can build a permanent playpen for them. - It's all very exciting :)

haha yeah :) My dog keeps trying to sneak in my room to have a look at my piggies.. and the cat doesn't even notice them.. she thinks she's royalty so just pouts her head up at them and ignore thems. :)
