Hi ,
I recently lost one of my pigs (she was 4) and I was wondering how to take care of the other.
My parent will not let me get another one so I’m not sure how I should look after her. So far I’ve been taking her out every day and she sits next to me while I work. Is there anything else I should do. Tips and advice would be great!
Bella is currently living out side in a double hutch with loads of hay and tunnels and stuff.
Thanks a bunch

If she’s going to be a lone pig I’d certainly recommend bringing her inside. It’s difficult when you’re relying on parents isn’t it? Obviously as you know the best thing to do would be to get her a friend but if they’re opposed to the idea I’d have her living indoors so she’s not too cold/lonely.

Have your parents considered rescuing a piggy of a similar age or older? If they’re worried about the “piggy cycle” of having more then getting older piggies as a friend will solve that, plus you’d be giving an older pig a forever home for their retirement years too :)

Thanks, just in case my parents say no are there any other tips to housing a lone guinea pig? Thanks so much though!

When I first got Iggy he was quite ill and had to be on his own for a while. I found giving him a baby safe toy helped as he cuddled up to it.

It may be worth asking your parents to read through the forum and see about the housing indoors and older piggies and such too. I found when I was younger once my mum had seen that it wasn’t just me saying things and that it’s genuinely in the best interest of the animal and they’ll be doing the right thing it definitely helped :)

I have tried ! They just won’t budge:(
Any more tips and advice for keeping a lone pig?

That’s such a shame :( Unfortuantely there’s not a lot more that I can think of that you could do :(

Thats okay 👌🏻
Do you think taking her out every day helps? What things could I do with her ?

That would definitely help, you could sit with her during indoor run time. My pigs prefer me when I’m doing something quietly while with them. They love it when I’m sitting with them reading a book or something, they hop on and off my lap for a cuddle as and when they please :)

Yay that what I’ve been doing 😀 Bells is a very happy pig and is not showing any signs of depression 😀😀😀

Good luck! It’s lovely how much you care for Bella and I hope you get the result you’re after :)
