Does anyone elses piggies get slightly grumpy on a hot day? I've given him some cool veg and some fresh cool water along with his frozen gel pack (wrapped in a towel) and he's a different fella

I think Piggle is grumpy seeing as it sounds like a barn dance/wrestling match is taking place in the coolest shadiest hutch compartment... Theo is just sleepy and taking a nap in a grass hidey tube in the playpen carefully positioned to catch the breeze coming in from outside :)

I would shade them completely on a day like today maybe he’s too hot?
He's in the house so he's out of any sunlight but my other half has been out the house for a few hours before I got in and it was a bit stuffy inside

Mine have been in the shade all day too which is probably why they are grumpy/sleepy- we are doing everything at a different time than usual to avoid the sun!

We're struggling because Theo still cant be in the same enclosure as the girls until after his plum fairy op, so the second cage and hutch dont fit completely in the shadiest places- poor Theo was out in the hutch at 8am before he'd really woken up because his side of the pet room gets the morning sun, then he came in from the hutch and into the playpen when the sun moved round at 3pm which is usually nap time, everything was 2 hours earlier than our usual routine, chasing the shade all day! I need to find him some sort of sunshade for his cage or reorganise the room a bit...

I'm lucky that I have a north facing garden so in the heat of the day the house shades half my back garden. The piggies are on the patio at the mo as they have successfully mowed the lawn. I always put an old duvet on the top of the run anyway to keep out the sun. This morning when they went in the run, I put the duvet down over the side of the run that had the sun coming in too.

I've moved Theo's cage so he's next door to the girls cage in the shade rather than across the room in the sun... everyone is definitely less grumpy and sleepy now but I don't think it's lowered the temperature much because there's a hot steamy love affair going on between the bars! :)

Puggle is passionately in love with Theo... Piggle is just laughing at them both :)
But everything has settled down very nicely (follow up post under Behaviour and Bonding... have I spoken too soon? Its all got really civilised after dinner was served!)

Mine is south facing so they can't go out during the day in heat like this. Though my house is warm too, but we are doing everything within our power to keep everyone cool.

Too hot outside even in the shade today so piggies indoors with the blinds shut and the fan on. New haycube each after I made the classic mistake of hay plus fan equals... a lot of clearing up to do! Also Theo seems to have spent some time deliberately vandalising his water bottle to turn it into a shower :) clever Theo!
