So I searched the web on guinea pig cages and what it showed my was very surprising!
The cages were too small, and the ramp looked too slippery. Poor guinea pigs! The second one said that it
was fit for one rabbit or two guinea pigs, which is untrue. The first one's water bottle looks SO tiny. For both, of
the cages, it said that it was PERFECT for guinea pigs. As if.

Unfortunately these things sell because when some decide to get guinea pigs, they may go to a pet shop where the sales people (not all mind you) are not fully educated on the care and housing small pets need. Hopefully the word will spread and they’ll eventually stop selling them when they realise no one buys them. But that’s a long way off I’m afraid.

@Siikibam its so true. Many pet stores are uneducated about guinea pigs! I went to one to get my guinea pigs *there are no rescues nearby* and they told me to bathe them every 10 days! Plus they said the guinea pigs didn't need any vegetables, and I shouldn't give them any bedding! They said I should just keep them on the wire floor! How awful! Pet stores need to be more educated!

I think the cages online have inaccurate descriptions, and as mentioned already we just have to stop buying them.
When I bought my guniea's from a pet shop, the shop staff did ask me for a photo of my cage first, so that's good.

I realise this is not in the spirit of the original post but...who in their right mind attaches a water bottle to cage sides like that? That alone is going to cause problems, never mind the fact the cages are too tiny to begin with. That bottle is going to get knocked around in a good sized cage, nevermind a tiny one like that.

Please, if anyone does anything else...don't attach bottles like that. It is a good sized bottle though, it's just hard to tell because it's half empty and the lighting makes it look like the top half is missing.

Don't put guineas in tiny cages, and don't attach water bottles like that.

I got my 2 piggies from a pet shop and the guy selling them to me was really good and wanted to know where I’d be keeping them and what sort of housing I’d bought for them. He said that they can (and have) refused to then to people who have inappropriate housing for them.
Cages like those in the pictures are too tiny. My gerbils had bigger cages than that!

Cages sold on eBay seem to be the worst. Some sellers seem to suggest that their cages are suitable for hamsters, guinea pigs and gerbils. One was only 60cm long! Can you imagine the fallout from putting two males in there! Let alone one. Makes me so angry, is there no minimum cage size for Guinea pigs?

I once saw a "hamster home" in poundworld (before it closed down) and the box was no bigger than an A4 piece of paper, meaning none of the sides could've been any larger than that, honestly makes me so angry 😤

It’s sad isn’t it? People who don’t know better will buy them and the poor animals will be cramped. I purposely bought the biggest hutch I could find/afford for my piggies, even tho I was told by some people at P@H when I was browsing that it didn’t need to be so big 🤦🏼‍♀️

i cant stand those cages and its unfortunate that these companys make them and label them as guinea pig cages. new time owners don't know that they are to small. (i was one of them) But i quickly learned after joining this site that they needed much more space. Lucky for me my hubby is very good with tools
:) And he fell in love with the piggys also. And made them their custom cage :)
