:( that's terrible. It says small rabbit as well! It's not even a meter long! pow-pow

I know other members have emailed the company to tell them about minimum standards etc and this has worked in getting the cage off of the website, could you try that? I'll do it too, if lots of us do they might take it down!

Oh yes that's a good idea! Thank you!

If we all try and write a nice email, I hope they will get it off the site. Thing is, they would want to sell it, why would they listen to us and make a loss? Most businesses only care about money and I just hope they are not like that.

I will email them now, asking them nicely if it is possible to stop selling these.

What a horrible cage :( I would never have put my hamster in that, let alone a guinea pig or rabbit. How anyone could think that is suitable for a guinea pig or rabbit is beyond me.

I don't know much about guinea pigs but even I know that would be wrong. I guess it would be sold to people who do not know what guinea pigs require and it is also quite cheap. :(

A rabbit is beyond of what I thought could fit in there, If a rabbit was in there, I doubt it could barely move. An animal will go nuts if it has little space.. (Think about Big Brother and the people living in that house, after a few days, they go a little crazy! They also have room to walk in...)

the fact that the company still runs the product makes you wonder how many people use it for a cage, and how many lil piggies are living in one now :/

That question scares me! I feel so so sad for those piggies. :( They must be so miserable 8...

Well done for emailing them. I'm going to send mine tomorrow when i'm less tired! Hope some others can email them too!

I have this cage and it's way too SMALL for a guinea Pig. I have it for my dwarf hamster and it's a really nice cage for him but to advertise it as a guinea pig cage is shocking. It's too small for a syrian hamster so how is this cage right for a guinea pig?grrrr

oh dear, I think that may well be the worst I have seen, no wonder its easy to clean when the poor animals don't have the space to move and make a mess in the first place... email will be going tomorrow when I'm less ratty

Yes a syrian hamster will not do well in there. I just cannot believe the Imac company think of making such a small cage. Atleast they could have put it as a transport cage, but even then I just wouldn't agree.

I would just like to say this cage is horrible for a syrian hamster, guinea pig or any bigger animal but the cage is a lovely cage for a dwarf hamster but it's clear wrongly advertised for the wrong pet.

That cage meets the minimum RSPCA standard for floorspace for a Syrian hamster but I think that as they like to climb they should be given wire cages, and is bigger than required for dwarf species which this would suit nicely as they dont climb wire cages well and wont be able to escape from it!

Thanks guys, you just found me a dwarf hamster cage. however its quite shocking that its advertised for rabbits and guineas when it is in fact only hamster size!

Do you think the company may have just gotten it wrong?

Thing is, when I was interested in guinea pigs, in pictures, they look almost hamster size, just a bit bigger than a syrian hamster. When I went to the rescue to see what they feel like etc, I was so surprised as to how big they are. Even little ones that were like 8 weeks old were infact quite big. Ofcourse size varies but for someone who had never seen a guinea pig realistically, right in front of them, I just didn't know they were quite big.

However, having said that, the company should know their target audience, they should know what requirements the particular animal needs.

Unfortunately I dont think they made a mistake in the listing

I have a book from the 70s on piggie care and that says that that cage is the right size (if combined with a 6ft x 3ft run floortime) so if they read that book for example they will not know that that is now not considered adequate, they may in fact believe that its right. This cage would probably be good as a hospital cage for an injured piggie or something

I think all the cage photos must use baby guinea pigs , because tiny cage looks like it will be right a good size in photos but its really not!

Most hamster cages on the market are way to small for hamsters going by RSPCA recommendations (my hamsters cage is bigger than those :-) )

I have read that a piggie can be as much as 14 inches long , my syrian is not even half of that

Any animal deserves the most space it's owner can provide above the required space.

People say budgies are fine in a flight cage but I do not agree. My budgies fly all over the house and everyone knows not to open the windows. They only go in the cage to rest, eat, sleep and sometimes to play in. They play on the floor which they have a small gym to play on and a huge treetop thing where they can sit on perches with toys. Looks like a tree. I have given what I can for my budgies and I believe they are very happy, especially when they ask for kisses! x)

Overall, an animal cannot be kept in a small space for it's own life. I can only use budgies as an example because they are my only pets. Budgies will get lonely and sad if they are left in the cage, even with toys. My ones like to get along with the family members, hide behind curtains, sit on your shoulders and preen your hair :))

I just hope, hope the website does something about it :( I am just glad I am on this forum, learning all I can before I keep those lovely piggies and I am glad that after all I have learnt, I am going for a large C&C cage. (moved a lot of things around in my room to make the space lol)

That website is simply quite shocking! :o

I've just came across this cage for bunnies, (with two superimposed images of rabbits) its more of a hamster cage than a suitable cage for a rabbit! How on earth are rabbits meant to squeeze through those tubes?!

The size is: 3.4 ft x 1. 3 ft

Secondly, the hamster cages are way to small, and they show a picture of four syrian hamsters happily playing in one tiny cage, granted this is a photoshoped image but how is the general public meant to know? If someone has no knowledge of hamster care prior to purchasing the cage, and see an image of four syrian hamsters happily playing in that cage what will stop them going out and buying four hamsters to go inside? I just hope that the pet shops do a good job of advising and providing the new owner with plenty of knowledge!

What I don't understand is on the website they have an advice page for rabbits and guinea pigs: http://www.pawspetsupermarket.co.uk/guinea-pig-care-10012-p.asp

and towards the bottom end of the page it reads: "minimum four square feet of cage space per pig" surely the cages they are advertising do not meet the advice they are giving?

Ugh that website! malletheadpow-pow

Terrible website/company!
The best thing you can do is advise of minimum housing requirements and also advise them if they're going to sell them then to change the description on the website to say this size cage is only suitable for transportation or as a hospital cage, not for full time occupancy. That way if they do this they can still make money but hopefully people won't buy them for their pet to live in all the time.

:o OMG - that looks so awful, no character at all, boring - looks like a bloomin incubator to me :)>>>
Was having a look on the site at toys/bowls etc. and put some in my basket but have removed them now, will spend my money in places that know what they're talking about and will email them too :x grrrr
