I have two guinea pigs, a boy and a girl. the boy is desexed and is still trying to mate with the girl. She seems to try to get away from him and sometimes bites him but eventually gives up and lets him. I think this is stressing her out a lot and would love some advice of what to do. PLEASE HELP!

A neutered male only loses his ability to procreate, but nothing else.

While a girl is in season for about a day, she will only be ready to mate for a few hours at the end of this. You will have noticed that despite all the drama, a girl never moves far from her boy, but that she is very busy telling him that she is not ready - YET!

After a particularly wild season where I thought that my elderly lady had been pushed a bit too far, I learned a very valuable lesson on the morning after when I sat down near my pair having their breakfast.

Dizzy came up, put herself between me and Llewelyn, backside towards me, and started cuddling Llewelyn ostentatiously, threw me a very dirty look over her shoulder, licked him some more, gave me another look to make really sure that I had got the message and went back to her breakfast.

That taught me never to make any assumptions about the poor girlies again! mallethead

As a consolation, eventually the boy will quieten down more and have wilder seasons only every now and then.

Phew.. I'm so relieved. I'm slowing learning all the sounds and body language and this forums given me some great tips.
