Hi I'm new here and i was hoping on getting some information/advice.

I have four piggies ranging from 11 weeks to 4 months old. All female

One particular pig is being a naughty girl. She seems to have a very bad urine smell to her, started today.

All day long she has been chasing the other pigs around, focused on their rear end.

The screams and screaches coming from them today has been horrendous and continuous!

Is it possible for this to be hormonal - like is she on or something? May be a silly question but i dont know what happens with them lol.

Please help. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. :)

It sounds like she is in heat. It's normal for sows to get 'hormonal' and go chasing and mounting the others for up to 12-24 hours once in a while. Sometimes, if the seasons on multiple girls coincide, there may be two or three days of hormonal behaviour, after which everything will settle down again.

They come into season every 2 weeks, roughly, but you won't usually notice this behaviour every time.

Give her a bath in a few days. It's likely that she stinks of pee because the others have been shooting pee at her for chasing them.

Oh the little monkey! My Fleur was so hormonal as a youngster. She would mount her sister Flora no end! So I adopted 2 babes from Sokel rescue called Amber and Pearl and that seemed to settle her down. She took on the role of mum and never humped Flora again! :(|)

great question hope someone can answer this, my two girls have been rumbling and bum wiggling at each other all day, have got fed up with shouting GIRLS at them, this stops them in their tracks but as soon as I have walked away it starts again!

Hi they do grow out of the humping stage - its sort of like the teenager phase we go through i.e. some are affected more than others and some go through it for longer than others.

One of my dads girls had been trying to mount the rest of the herd for the last few months but has stopped now. Its just part of discovering who they are and what is and isn't acceptable within their group.

Hope this helps x

you should be sure that they really are all females too. it's most important so you don't end up with dozens of baby piggies!:(|)

I didn't notice so much with my original 5 girls when they were in heat.

However we then got Jenny & Betty and they are very persistent and they're always in heat around the same time and you can't ignore them. They will be 2 this year so hopefully they will calm down a bit.

However I now have 12 girls living in the same cage and Bonnie, Fiona and Zoe seem to be quite rowdy as well. There were 4 chasing each other the other day and it was quite loud and quite funny at times. And I'm sure it won't be long before Amy, Cassandra and Diane will go through the same thing. The joys of girls living together !rolleyes

Thankyou for the advice! So Blossom could continue being a a naughty girl for a few years yet!

I just cant believe the transformation from the other day when everything was high and mighty to the day after, they are like new found best friends and hardly ever hear a squeek from them.

I didnt know anything about this when I bought them. I was actually told that females get on better than males at one point. Can this be true? Or do males go through this also?

I did actually have a look on the internet for sexing them and i found a site with loads of pictures. Thankfully (and hopefully) I'm now a whizz at sexing and happy so say they are all girls (another relief!) Until the next "in season".
God help me if all four come into season at the same time haha!

xx

i too had what your discribing i have 4 sows together in a group they are the

best of friends until season time i too thought i had boars!

they were sqweeking, mounting, bickering, bitting each other i thought i had

to seperate them, but the day after they were the best of friends again!

this was all going on at 3am in the morning as they are indoor piggies now.

i thought boars were harder to get along with each other!

Slightly irritating the sound can get, as mine live in my bedroom! I'm going to write down from now on what days she is in season and move them to another room when its due, I cant put up with that again lol!

Shame, I know she cant help it!:)
