Hi,

Potato went for her first hormone injection today...she was given 1ml of Delvosteron...while the vet doesn't think she will need another one for a long time he has asked to see her in December/January to check her over...again that's fine...but I'm struggling to see any known side effects for Guinea Pigs anywhere online when I have researched only for Dogs, Cats and Ferrets.

Potato is currently napping and looking a bit down on herself...she is squeaking when pooping is seems and were not sure why...she does it every now and again and it seemed to be when she had certain foods she has been seen by the vet for it and he was happy if it was only happening occasionally for us to keep her on a slightly stricter diet to stop it...were hoping its just because she is a little sore on her back from the injection (obviously we don't want her to be sore in the first place but id rather that than a side effect) hopefully all will be ok in a few days time and she won't feel as grumpy...plenty of snacks and cuddles are in order for her...

Hi

Unfortunately, guinea pigs are dreadfully under-researched. Hormone injections - while becoming a bit more frequent - are still not all that common and there is quite a variety of products/brands being used.

All the best. Please switch from weighing once weekly to weighing daily at the same time in the feeding cycle to monitor the food intake. Keeping in mind that hay is by far the largest food group but is also the one often first impacted and the one that you cannot control by eye. The poo output is always running behind events.

We have noticed that they are very under researched which is a shame because they unfortunately get illnesses like every other animal...

We are checking her weight since she has always looked slightly smaller anyway...she just seems to be yelling a lot since coming back...we haven't been given any pain meds for her but were a little concerned if it carries on through the night ill ring the vet in the morning and ask if there is a possibility for some pain meds as a just incase. I hate the thought of her being uncomfortable...
