Well i know this may seem like a pointless thread but i was wondering if woodshavings and straw is okay as bedding for my 2 girlies? I use newspaper at the bottom(so the plastic pull out tray/floor) doesnt get ruined/soaked by wee wee, i then put shavings in and sprinkle some straw in, is this okay? One of my guineas has a slight URI so i havent used any straw since, as the guinea who had the URI likes to dig up the bed and lay under it:))

Thanks

Don't use straw, its not for guinea pigs and can cause injuries, particularly to their eyes

Woodshavings aren't recommended by everyone as they can be linked to respiratory problems in guinea pigs - due dust and their noses being so close to the ground.
Straw shouldn't be used as it can cause hay poke injuries to their eyes, meadow hay is much better.

Alternatively you could just use newspaper with hay on top, or a layer of newspaper with old towels + fleece blankets.

I use vetbed here at the rescue but if I have particularly messy pigs (usually boys rolleyes) I use finacard. Both beddings are put ontop of newspaper.

If your pigs have respiratory problems then you may be better off using fleece to keep them warm rather than hay/straw which can be dusty. As another poster has said, straw is not recommended for piggies.

Cavy cozies are ideal for providing warm shelters for piggies. I make and sell them in aid of rescues. You can check out my website here: www.cavycozies.com
