For the past two days one of my newer girls has been making a low hooting sound. She is completely normal otherwise. No weight loss, she is eating and drinking well, and no change in activity. I have an appointment this afternoon for her and her cage mate as I haven't had them checked yet with my vet since I adopted them. Feeling a bit nervous. Hopefully it's nothing.
 
aw , Guinea Pigs can be such a worry can't they :(

I've had problems with my boy , Reuben , hooting on and off for the past year . He was diagnosed and treated for a URI in the summer - but sometimes it's not an infection - he gets problems if he breathes in a bit of hay dust . I've managed to minimise it by sifting all his hay in a colander before I put it in his hutch .

Thank you all. It's only ever in the morning. So strange. I refresh hay in the morning and evening. Maybe that's it. Or early URI. They are around 10 months old. My mind always goes to worst case. I have read about hooting and heart problems. Hopefully not. Taking a deep breath and hoping for the best.
 
Well. Just got back. Both girls got the clean bill of health! He said everything looks perfect with both of them. Not sure what this is. We will see if it continues. I feel silly for taking my pets in for no reason, but my vet never makes me feel that way. Yes is amazing and always says it's never a waste of time when you get to see a piggy. ❤️

Yes it is. Thank you! My anxiety is terrible so anything out if the norm sends my brain into overdrive. If I wouldn't have gone, I would have been a mess. Besides they have not been to my vet yet for a check since I adopted them a month ago.

Same with every pig i have had 👍 its just because they only breathe through their noses ( unless desperate)and their nasal passages are so narrow, smallest bit of hay dust and it creates a hoot sometimes.
 
Ever since I got Penny she makes a hooting sound too once in a while. Only lasts a little bit until she coughs and then it's gone. Vet said her right lung is a bit wheezy and she probably makes that sound due to that (we tried various medicines but it didn't go away; thinking it's a permanent thing she got). Glad to hear your piggies are both okay :)
