Hi everyone,
My 1 year old girl has been wheezing and a hooting sound for 3 days now. She’s indoors but Sunday I put her out for 2hrs and maybe she’s got a chill and I have learnt my lesson and won’t be putting her out until summer. Her boyfriend is fine. I’m taking her to the vets this afternoon. Could it be a uri? She coughed yesterday. She’s eating . But resting more.

I am very sorry that your piggy is wheezing and hooting. It’s good that you’re taking her to the vet today. It could well be a uri and if it is, the vet will be able to prescribe the correct treatment. I hope she feels better soon whatever the reason x

Only a vet can really tell you what is going on, but you have acted quickly and hopefully it is something that can be easily treated.
Please let us know how you get on at the vet.
We are all here to support you.

Thank you. She seems to have stopped the hooting noise but I’m sure it will start again. She has parsley treat balls with seeds and groats in. I’ve taken that out. The seeds may be aggravating her throat also. I will keep you posted. Vet appointment at 3.45pm. She’s drinking had some grass and hay and pellets.x

Update everyone,
The vet said her chest was ver crackerly. On baytril for 7 days and metacam for 5 days. If she has improved by end of course great if not they will give her longer on antibiotics and change the type of antibiotics. Since having her metacam she’s really tucking into her tea and hay. And seems more active. Fingers crossed. Her poor partner has been stressed as she’s not well that it’s now given him a flare up with his sterile IC. I now have 2 pigs to medicate. He will be fine though in a few days when his flare has settled down again.xx thank you everyone for your kind words and advice as always.xx

Nuts and seeds aren’t recommended for piggies as they pose a choking hazard so it’s good you’ve taken the parsley treat out x
Yes my vet told me when I showed her the treat bell they shouldn’t have them. It makes me cross when manufacturers say it’s safe for pigs when clearly it’s not.

Fingers crossed the meds work. 7 days for a URI isn’t always long enough but you will need to see how things go.

Unfortunately there are a lot of things sold as suitable which aren’t.

I hope that the antibiotics do the trick and that she feels better but she may need a longer course of antibiotics. Fingers crossed that your boy feels better soon too. I’ve had two pigs with IC.

Sadly there are a lot of things marketed for piggies which are unsuitable for them
