hi everyone ☺️

i recently adopted a young (~17 weeks old) girl from pets at home adoption centre who was put up for adoption due to respiratory issues. she has ongoing honking, its almost constant but does stop every now and then. sometimes it’s loud and sometimes shes silent. before coming into my care, she was treated with 3 courses of antibiotics and 2 courses of steroids - i was told the vet said she has no active URI and it could be scarring in the lungs that makes her honky. apparently it took her a while of having the URI for her to be surrended to pets at home, without treatment from her previous family 😓

I have a nebuliser, which i use with saline on her for around 15mins a couple of times a week. i’ve used f10 solution in it a couple times but it scares me a bit 😅 i am happy to use it more though if it’s recommended.

the pigs live in my room which has an air purifier, and they are on great quality absorbent fleece bedding which i change weekly. their hay is dust free but is not in a hay rack because they love to burrow in it, but would you recommend this in my situation?

i have 2 others in with her, neither have ever shown URI symptoms before or since living with her

is there anything else i could be doing to help her live a nice life?

thank you everyone ☺️

Just giving this a little bump- I can't give you any advice, but you've done a wonderful thing for her. 🥰
Are Pets at Home covering the cost of her treatment?

Sounds like you are doing everything to keep her comfortable and giving her a wonderful life 😃

thank you, its comforting to know I'm doing as much as i can ☺️ they’re not covering the costs unfortunately but i knew that before taking her in. I’ve had guinea pigs my whole life and ive had many pets with respiratory issues so I figured i should adopt her to make sure she lives as comfortable as possible!

Aw she's so pretty! 😍
We had a piggy in at the rescue right near when we first started called Cuddles. She'd been handed into to Pets at Home with her sister Rosie as her owners didn't want them anymore. Rosie had a large mass and was unfortunately PTS before we collected Cuddles.
She had scarring to her lungs after being squeezed by a child (!) but she always did really well, she just looked like she was breathing quite heavily.
I'm so glad your piggy has found you - she is lucky to have found such a caring and competent owner! ❤️
