I want to make a hay rack for my guinea piggies because they don't eat it from the floor of their cage. (it's not their bedding) I've tried bowls and stuff but they just tip it out or poo in it I've also been told that toilet roll tubes filled with hay but I'm worried because i dont know if they chew them are they harmful I would greatly appreciate all ideas thanks guys!

Piggies generally seem to eat quite a lot of cardboard (must be good roughage!) search for "carrot cottage" on here if you want to see some photos of houses that are cardboard boxes underneath being slowly destroyed. So I would be happy to give them hay in a toilet roll or kitchen roll tube so long as it wasn't (and I've never seen one that is) absolutely covered in printed ink writing.

If you want to make one yourself, then I've heard of people bending a c&c grid to make one but I haven't done that myself. You could get a small cardboard box and tie it with ribbon to the side of the cage and cut it to the style you want too maybe?

If you were going to buy one, here's the one I recommend. I've got 3 of these in use at the moment. Don't be put off by the picture of rabbits using it, it works great for piggies (mine don't sit on the top though!) Hay Rack with Platform |Great Deals at zooplus

If you have any offcuts of correx you can fold those to make a hay rack/box that you attach to the side of the cage.

We use a combination of hay trays (plastic boxes from the DIY store), with homemade hay bags hanging above them.

For 4 pigs we have 2 hay trays and 2 hay bags.

This system works pretty well as it allows the pigs to burrow and play in the hay trays, whilst ensuring that there is always some hay that is off the floor and relatively clean. I would say the hay trays also collect about 80% of their poop and wee. They are changed daily.
