I have had my four guinea pigs for a year this August. They have lived inside in a large cage since we got them. We have moved them outside into a much larger cage with lots of fun things to play with and it is safe. They have lots of entertainment and each other to keep them company. Do you think they will be alright living outside seeing as they were inside as babies? Thank you, Olivia x

Welcome to the forum!

I don’t know much about these situations, but I do know it can be healthier for pigs to live indoors, where there are less biting bugs and more human interaction. But this is just what I heard; I don’t know much about this.

And it’s great that you gave them toys and a large cage! Can you post some pictures?

Mine are outside piggies. There is no right or wrongs where you keep your Piggies it is personal preference. If they are going to be outside permanently do not bring them in as the days nights start to get cooler. This stimulates their bodies into growing a thick insulatng fur ready for the winter. That said they will still need nice warm snugglies for the winter: snuggle tubes, fleecy sleeping bags, snugglesafes and more than lots of hay to keep warm. I have a 2 covers on my hutch. A hutch snuggle and a hutch hugger and in the winter when it's frosty I put a blanket over the top and front to help keep the frost out. It is better if you can put them in a shed or garage (no car) in the winter. I do not have this option unfortunately. As long as you do you best to keep your Piggies toasty warm in the winter they should be fine. When the temperature drops below around 15° C outside then you have to make sure the inside of the hutch doesn't.

Welcome to the forum.
Mine are indoor piggies - we're lucky to have enough space for them.
Others on the forum have outdoor piggies.
It doesn't seem to matter so long as they have good housing and plenty of food and companionship.
It would be lovely to see pics.

Thank you so much, I will be sure to get them extra fleecy covers for when it becomes a lot colder. But they seem to be really happy living outside at the moment! Thank you so much for the advice!

Thank you so much! I am new to this forum thing and was never sure how to work it but now that i am I will be sure to post some pics! If you want to know more about my little piggies they have an Instagram @The Pawsome Pets (@the.pawsome.pets) • Instagram photos and videos thank you!

I have had both indoor and outdoor piggies. I have had indoor piggies since 2013 and I personally prefer having them indoors but that’s personal choice.

Following the advise that @Betsy has recommended, your piggies should be perfectly fine living outdoors :)
