Has anyone used home euthanasia services (a vet comes to your home and the pet is pts at home) for their gpig, and what was it like? I'm in USA so I don't know if this is a service other countries may have...my boy Amigo has heart failure, and I think I'd like to do home euthanasia when the time comes. It's a lot more expensive ($400), but it would be less stressful and easier on us.

Hi

Very sorry about having to make that decision.

It is not a service I have ever come across before for guinea pigs in the UK; it is available for dogs. Guineas are most commonly put under general anaesthesia before the lethal injection is administered here; which would make a home service impossible.

I know it's available for dogs in the UK. As guinea pigs who are pts here have gas before the injection, that would probably make it difficult to do at home.

I live in the US and haven't heard of this for guinea pigs. I know that people use this for dogs and cats. When I had one of my guinea pigs PTS, they had to give them general anesthesia before they did the injection as it has to be given right next to the heart. The vet did this in another room as watching them give the injection is WAY too much for people to handle and they want the piggy to be comfortable.

If you do this, ask them if have done this for guinea pigs before. Making sure this is the most comfortable time for your pet is the most important decision that you can make for them.

Sending big hugs to you at this sad time :hug:I’m so sorry
I haven’t heard of this service in the UK, only for dogs but whatever decision you make it will be made from love and your little piggie will know that x
