Hi guys!
Just wanting some advice ๐Ÿ˜Š
We are going away as a family for 3 nights tonight, unfortunately legoland does not accept piggy visitors ๐Ÿ˜” I made the hard decision to leave the piggies at home to cause them less stress than putting into a hotel and made c&c cages as big as our room so they have full run of the living room whilst we are away (safety checks all been made!) They just dont travel well and are very isolated in a new environment. A family member is going to come and visit them once a day to feed veg, top up nuggets hay and water and to give a quick clean. Is this enough? Ive never left them before and they get so much interaction out of us daily that I feel a bit.... sad and guilty that I am going somewhere without them! They have each other which I feel reassured they will love the peace and quiet (we have a 5 year old boy, no explaination needed) but I just feel bad I guess. Is once a day okay for someone to visit? I know they will be alright emotionally but I'm worried about the food as maybe we are a little naughty and love a good cuddle and a veg treat, will one batch a day be enough?! Aggghh I just dont know!
Thanks in advance ๐Ÿ’–

The piggies will be fine without interaction

I would advise making a list for your family member to do when they visit, maybe get them round before hand to show quantities

Do you normally feed them veggies twice a day? Or once?

We have made a list and my parents visit often so they know where to put things and ive got their food in containers in the fridge ready ๐Ÿ˜Š
I usually feed them twice daily just because they have breakfast with us and tea. Though we have a lot of wastage they are fussy with eating veg but always have plenty of hay and nuggets inbetween.
Thanks for replying ๐Ÿ˜Š

That's good that they already know :)

Hmmm, would they possibly feed twice a day or would that be asking too much?

I think it may be asking a little much as it is going to be a 1 hour trip for them to travel to them. I'm sure they will be fine, we are only 3 hours away so I will drive back if theres any problems ๐Ÿ˜Š

They will be absolutely fine, and you have made excellent preparations for them while you are away.

Our piggies are the center of our home and are handled daily, and fed multiple times a day (veg in the morning, hay top ups, hand fed bits and pieces throughout the day, and fresh grass most evenings).
We regularly leave them for 2 weeks, and our pet sitter only comes once a day. She does do fresh, pellets, water and hay, but she doesn't handle them, etc. so they receive nowhere near the level of interaction that they usually do.
And they are fine - honestly I adore the piggies and there is nothing I wouldn't do for them, but from the start I was also realistic about the fact that they will need to be left when we travel, and this will always be multiple times a year.
As long as you have someone you trust visiting then they really will be ok.
When we have been gone for longer than 10 days I do notice they are a bit quieter when we get home, but that only lasts a day or two before they are back into full wheek mode.

The most important thing is that you enjoy your time away - the piggies will be fine!

When I go away my piggies are confined to barracks! They are used to coming out of hutch every day and going in the run and we handle them all every day. When we go away they get none of this. My petsitter comes in once or twice a day to give them pellets and veg and when we get back home we just get back to normal routine again. They are none the worse for it. Just be pleased you have found someone willing to look after your piggies. They may not do things like you would but does that matter? My piggysitter gives my lot far too many pellets in my opinion but I don't say anything to her as I am just happy that she's willing to do it!

Thank you all for your lovely comments! They were fine and I think that I maybe need to cut their food down to once a day as they arent really eating what I'm putting down for them ๐Ÿ˜Š I am very lucky that I have someone to come over and see the piggies! They have been fine and been straight back to their cuddly selves ๐Ÿ˜€ thanks again! Xx
