In view of our upcoming Switzerland trip we have trialled my easy set up temporary playpen idea this weekend for when the piggies can't roam the living room for longer than a day.

By using the for cable-tied front grids of the cage as well all six leftover grids (usually preventing the piggies from getting into our bookshelf), I have managed to form a 3x4 grid walk-in playpen in front of our cage. I have joined both sections of grids by using reusable gardening ties.

The Ikea throw actually fit this size exactly if folded up once! There is some plastic dustsheeting underneath as well as a couple of Primark beach towels.

It is pretty obvious that the piggies have had a better time than us with mum-in-law in Wales! rolleyes

A welcome back dinner for the reunited tribe!

It's always so heartwarming to see your tribe gathered together. Looks like the cutest tug of war ever! :)

That's an ace idea and perfect for when you go away.

Love it!

Wonderful photo of them all together too. ahhh

How are you going to survive without all your piggies on holiday, Wiebke?

Thinking and worrying about them constantly?

It's hard, but it has to be done. I don't think my mum will forgive me for not turning up for her big birthday party because I have to look after my (in her opinion far too many) piggies! malletheadmalletheadmallethead

Thankfully, I have found a neighbour who is willing to look after the tribe; she does it already for most our weekend trips when we have to go and look after my mum-in-law. But I needed a better solution for the tribe having to stay in their cage for six full days.

The pen is certainly working well, as is the new bunkhouse from the amount of poo I have dug out of there!

Thanks! I am quite proud of having been able to work everything out with stuff I was already having, although we will need more beach towels to allow for one cage clean when we are away on holiday. And some more solid reusable plastic sheet for the underlay. And I'm so happy that it's working and I can leave my group without fretting about them getting into squabbles when they are penned up for several days!

I had to climb over the coffee table tonight in order to get to my sofa seat, though. rolleyes The pen will go tomorrow morning!
