Hello again! We were thinking of going away for a couple of days but mum does't want to give the cavies to someone else to look after grrrr Can we just leave them lots of dry food and water or is that wrong? ?/ Its only for 3/4 days ")

In short. Absolutely not.

Where abouts are you, there may be an experienced guinea pig owner on here who would happily look after them for you?

i would say Not!

Mine need everyday attention haha. so am sure yours will..

I went away for 2 weeks and left mine with my Mum and i left her a list of to do & don'ts lol. is she not willing to look after them? x

No. They need daily attention. I think it would be a great example for your parents to do ths at all. I'm sure there will be someone that can take them for a few days x

I would never leave mine for longer than one night. Piggies need constant supplies of hay to keep their digestion moving & for their teeth & there is no way that by the end of 3 days even they would have any left, so would be at risk of digestive problems which could potentially be fatal :(

Please find a reputable boarder nearby that would have them for a few days for you, or a reliable relative or friend to leave them with. Whereabouts are you in case someone can recommend a good place for them to stay :)

Gosh I couldn't contemplate leaving them for one day let alone 3/4.
What if they knocked their water bottle off for example?
Just because Piggys are small it doesn't mean they don't need daily attention, you would never forgive yourself if you left them and something happened.

I left my budgie overnight once and he had knocked over his food tray. Luckily he can fly down the bottom of cage but I'd never do it again. X

I wouldn't do that, never. Last year when we went to England for Christmas, we had two friends who had keys and we planned ahead so every day one of them stopped by, cleaned the cage, fed them and filled up their water bottles and checked on them. They don't need someone 24/7, but they should be checked on everyday, seriously!

Our boys are part of our family. If we go on holiday so do they. They are used to human company and all the noises that come with it. Just recently we decided to have a short 2 night break away before we booked anything we made sure that our boys had their short break booked first at a local rescue/boarding centre. It was very cheap and gave us the reassurance that they were having a good time and being watched over should anything happen whilst we were away. We also had the comfort that we would call the boarding anytime for any update on the boys holiday. As it turned out we found a hotel only a mere 5 miles from their boarding - a great time was had by all.

Most of all we could relax and enjoy our break knowing our boys were being looked after.

Ok i will tell mum because that was her idea
I am sure i will find one of my friends nice enough to look after my guinea pigs:))

please post your location. If any of our members live near you, i'm sure they'll be able to help you out. Take comfort from the fact you are being more responsible than your mum at the moment. I myself am a mum of 5 kids, but being a busy mum is no excuse for neglecting the pets in the family.

I am sorry that your mum won't listen to you. As an adult, she is responsible for the welfare of your guinea pigs. Leaving them alone for that amount of time is classed as neglect!

I am lucky that my neighbours are more than happy to look after my piggies but most of the time they either come with us or go to a local small animal hotel.

I'm sorry if my post comes across as harsh but they simply can not be left for that amount of time. What if they pull their water bottle off, drink all their water or knock their food bowl over? I'm not sure about other people's pigs, but mine won't eat food that has been tipped up.

What about fresh veggies and hay? You can't leave veggies in the cage because if the go off and the pigs eat it, it'll make them poorly :(

I do hope your mum changes her mind.
