My guinea pig has had a relatively large and hard brown lump on its face for around a year, and it has fallen out I think from the guinea pig scratching it or his buddy and it comes out and bleeds profusely and leaves a deep, large wound on his face and I am really worried and need advice on what to do. Attached is a photo of the hole in his face and the lump was thrown away, but was solid on top and everything else below was on the softer side

Ooh owch! It looks like it's possibly an abscess that's burst, it'll need cleaning by a vet too.
Try and get a vets appointment as soon as possible.
If it is an abscess it'll need flushing out 2 or 3 times a day (abscesses heal from the inside out) he'll also need some strong antibiotics Zithromax is used with good success rates in the UK for abscesses, he'll probably need to be on that for about a month, if any infection is left in the wound it'll only break open into another abscess in the future!

one of my guineas had a facial abscess too,but hers was lanced then sutured open to let it drain (marsupialised) , daily i flushed the wound with baytril, she had Zithromax orally &some loxicom for the pain.
make sure no flies can get near his face, if you could put any hay on the floor for a bit instead of above him, just to stop any bits falling into the wound.

@furryfriends (TEAS) is an abscess queen, but here in the UK it's nearly 1am,so the health & illness members (volunteers) might not see your thread for a few hours.

He's a handsome chap, fingers crossed for a speedy recovery, let us know how you get on at the vets. Xx

I agree, this looks like either a cyst or an abscess that has burst... you can rinse it out with sterile saline, but should see a vet because it may need antiobiotics or help closing. In North America typically vets with the most experience with small animals bill themselves as 'exotic' vets or vets seeing 'pocket pets.' Good luck!

Hello and welcome to the forum. Ouch that looks sore. Good luck at the vets.

Welcome to the forum. That does look like a cyst or abscess may have burst. Please do get your piggy to see a vet as he will need that open wound checked to prevent infection setting in.

Poor little fella, that looks sore. I agree he needs to see a vet for some antibiotics and possibly some pain relief. They'll also be able to teach you how to flush it.
