Hi! I'm new!I have owned many cavies but currently do not own one. I was wondering if I could use a dog crate to house one cavie? (AmazonBasics Double-Door Folding Metal Dog Crate - Large (42x28x30 Inches) )

It looks a bit too small, I guess one piggy would have a bit of space in in but they are really meant to live in pairs or groups.
In my experience a lonely guinea pig is a sad guinea pig, it doesn't matter how much time you spend with it. You can't always be there and you don't really speak guinea pig language.
My sister used to keep Lucky alone. We could see how lonely he was, always hiding away, not really doing much. He seems so much happier now that he has Sammy so I really think you should get more than one guinea pig.

Hi @Gifford_27 You would be best getting two piggies as they really thrive when in pairs or groups. I am not sure about where in the world you are but have you looked into C&C cages?

Definitely two not one. This cage would be too s.all for two.Minimum for two girls is,120 cage, 140 for two boys

Carlson Secure and Compact Double Door Metal Dog Crate, Extra Large
This one is a wee bit bigger( not by much but everything counts)
Also, could I use this to extend the pigs' room? (Prevue Pet Products Multi-Color Small Pet Playpen 40090 )

Have you looked at Midwest cages?
They are about the same price as the dog crate you posted.
I was going to get one for my piggies but I ended up getting a taller cage because I didn't want my dog jumping. They look good and you can always connect a few together if you want to.

Yes, that is also the same reason for me. My dog has to stay in my room, and so would the Guinea pig. A c&c or Midwest cage ussally doesn't have a top. I know I could cage the dog up, but that wouldn't be fair to the dog.

Yeah, I get it.
I think the second crate is just a bit above the minimum, it's pretty much the same size as my guinea pig's cage.
I'm sure you could add the run to it too :)
The only thing I would be worried about with a crate is poo getting kicked out onto the floor :D

Ok, thanks! I'm sure I could make some kind of border going ip the sides a bit. I use felt for bedding so could I just roll it up the sides a bit?

Midwest does make a cage with a top. They have the option to order one with or without a top.
