Hello everyone!

Hows everyone and piggies doing? <3
I miss posting here! I am the owner of Gin and Loui if you remember :)

I have a question and I would appreciate your answer please.
So my guinea pig Loui that I adopted recently has a history of fungal infection that his previous owner treated, and he was fine so far, but I noticed near his buttock he has a bald line with the fur turning yellow and the fur looks like it has glue on it. I dont know how to explain and hes not letting me touch him to see it close up. I suspect he has fungi back.. :/ Gin and Loui both have been scratching a lot last 2 weeks. But I thought it was from hay/aspen since I had them checked 2 months ago at vets and they both were healthy.
My mother scared me a lot yesterday she told me Loui might have mites, and go into seizures and die and that i have to take to him to vet ASAP. I got scared of what she said because 2 days ago Loui was running around like crazy. I have never seen him run like that EVER. he looked desperate and looked like he was trying to jump out of the cage. it was hard for me to see him scared like that, now I'm thinking maybe it was because he has mites and had a seizure? i am a good owner and i try my best to have my piggies happy and healthy and everything makes me frightened when it comes to them..
SO my question is (I made an appointment in exactly 1 week with the vet since she doesn't have anything available sooner) do you think I should take them to vet sooner than that? maybe animal emergency? Any answer will be appreciated.

Thank you! hope everyones doing great! <3

ill post pictures here.

Hi

Could you please post a picture? Both fungal skin infection and mange mites cause firstly hair loss - have you seen any? They are two very different things and require different treatment.

To me, it sounds rather like a boar mounting fest with lots of peeing and some 'boar glue' (i.e. dried semen fluid); but of course without a picture, I can only guess.

More information on guinea pig parasites and ringworm (fungal) treatment:

Running like crazy (we call it zoomies) is a sign of total happiness and an excess of energy - please take a deep breath and feel blessed.

'Popcorning' and 'zooming' - joy and exuberance (videos)

I have also added a link to our practical information on skin parasites and ringworm treatment and hygiene to my last post.

Unfortunately, we cannot tell you exactly what is going on, as it would require a hands-on examination - and that is the one big drawback when working online. All that anybody can ever do is guess from a picture.

If it is a return of ringworm, then you should know by tomorrow, as the area of hair loss will keep growing and be presenting with the typical fungal crust. Our ringworm hygiene guide is VERY detailed and practical to help you get on top of it once and for all if needed.
Mange mites cause seizures only in cases of a serious infestion due to neglect or under-treatment; and even then they can be got on top of with the correct treatment.

Just take a deep breath. It may take you a day longer or a vet trip; but if it turns out to be fungal or parasitic, then it is an entirely manageable problem.

You can find all the necessary information and care tips in the links in my previous post. Please do not over-react and don't be tempted to home-treat on spec; it is better to wait until it becomes clearer what is going on so you can step then in with correct measures and get on top of it ultimately faster and more efficiently.

Your boys have grown into handsome ans very obviously well looked after boys. They won't go into an instant decline, so please take the time needed to properly assess whether you are dealing with a behavioural issue or a fungal/parasitic problem (they can all look much more similar in the very first stages than you'd expect).
