hi all you guinea pig fans!

I thought it was about time i joined a group of people with an interest in guinea pigs.
My name is Daniel and i am 20 years of age and my partner is Sarah who is 19 years of age.
Ive had a few guineas in my life but now me and my partner are getting a huge interest in them. we currently have a female named Izzy and her ever hyper partner Gizmo who is male :D. On the 24th of February Izzy decided she was gonna give birth and she had three lovely little babies. I was so amazed how well she had done with them, all had survived and we only had a slight issue with the first born but he is absolutly fine! Poor Gizmo does feel lonely at the moment but Sarah is giving him much love and care but he still misses Izzy. We have named all 3 of the babies but only plan on keeping one and selling the other two. We have both read up as much as possible on the whole subject and as it stands ive been called an "expert" by a few pet shop owners now! But the best way to learn is through experience!

Well hopefully we will both fit in and meet people who will be of great help to us and we would gladly try our best to help aswel!

i tried uploading a picture of them all but it says the upload folder is full so ill try again at a later date!

look forward to hearing from you all :)

hi Daniel and Sarah welcome to the forum, new babies how wonderful can you not keep them all? I do thats why I have over 30 and love each and every one of them, been keeping them for over 30 years and they are my world

Hi and welcome to both of you.
Is Gizmo neutered or are you planning more babies?
If you are not selling for profit i'm sure there will be someone here who could give then a loving home if you wanted that?

Cant wait for pics. :)

Thank you all so far.

wow thirty guinea pigs :O and i thought my four were noisey lol.

Gizmo hasnt been neutered yet as we are planning on more babiesfrom him and Izzy.

I have recently brought a book and it mentions a few ways to breed, one of them being in-breeding when the mother mates with a son or a father mates with a daughter. is that actually a safe method? it said the reason was to breed out imperfections.

My original way was to keep a female and buy another male for company and breeding purposes.

if i was to keep all three of the babies how would i house them?

all males with the father and females with the mother? i know that boars tend to fight when females are around and I'm unsure on this. I only currently have two cages but soon I'm converting the shed into a huge cage for them all.

I'm adding some pictures into the picture section now :D

If you cannot hous th currnt babis thn why ar you going to br for mor? - That just maks no sns! Thr ar so many guina pigs looking for forvr homs in shltrs so why not consir aopting a guina pig if you want mor? - I think first of all though, housing th babis is first on your priority list.

Fortuantly we do have the space to house them all and the time to look after them, but as you just stated in the rules i will keep that part to myself.

our first two guinea pigs were brought from a pet shop where the conditions were terrible, many boars and sows living in a tiny glass container together with rabbits. Unfortuantly i know of no rescue homes in this area. IF i didnt have space for them then breeding would never had happened. i would never sell or give them to any type of pet store because the conditions are appalling. All of our guineas get love and care, the cages are cleaned regulary and they have a constant supply of dry foods and veg. I have a vast knowledge about cavies and have educated myself on as much as possible be it through books or own experience.

so sorry for bringing that whole matter up, the anti-breeding must have skipped my mind but i would like to stay on the forum as you are all such friendly and informative people.

thanks
