Herb variants

I know thyme and basil are on the list of generally safe herbs, but does that include all varieties? I've got a number of varieties of thyme (French, English, orange, etc.) and I've got Thai basil. Are those all okay, or should I avoid the orange thyme (same genus, different species) and stick to varieties of Thymus vulgaris? How about the Thai basil? It's the same species as regular sweet basil, just a variation.

I would think they're all ok to feed in moderation. It's chives as they're part of the onion family that you should avoid
