Can I ask if anyone has or is using hemp mats in their hutch/cage. Supposedly only needs changing at 2 or 3 week intervals depending on number of occupants.

I’ve not heard of hemp mats, only aubiose which I think is a hemp bedding.

They are advertised on 'Zooplus' . I use Auboise but these appear to be a substance that are in one piece and you can brush off the solid droppings. I just wondered if anyone else has experience with using them as they sound goo d

I think they sound like they’d get gross! I use auboise and I love it, but I don’t like the idea of a mat that just gets peed on day after day and there’s nothing to do but bin it when it gets too stinky.

How would you wash it though? I’d worry about the urine smell...Or is it a case of throw away and use another? I’ve not found any bedding that will last 2-3 weeks without changing or washing etc.

Ive not used them but I’ve just been looking them up out of interest and it seems that you use it as a liner either on its own or with other bedding on top. The hemp mat just gets brushed off and/or turned over and used again, potentially for several weeks before replacing with another.

Yes but how long before it got stinky I'm wondering? My piggies are outside a lot just now, (not today, as it's raining so they are in the hutch) my cleaning is down to once a week. Howevet, when they are indoors during Autumn & Winter I change to fleece which gets smelly after a few days and sometimes this , along with the family laundry pile gets too much. These mats might be worth using every so often. I would like to hear from someone who has used them but no one as yet seems to have tried it out.

I’m curious as well - would they not smell if they’re the liner with nothing on top?
I hope you get an answer, though I’ve not heard of them on here before :)
