My new guinea pig, Penelope, is very timid and shy, but whenever we bring Guinea around, he calms her down and makes her not as freaked out and shy.

He very much likes her company because she doesn't try to dominate her, and she likes his company, because he helps her feel safer and really calms her down.

Guinea has helped her eat carrots, after she watched him eat a few munches.

Penelope does occasionally bite his ear (but not enough to make him bleed) and he gets super mad at her and walks away while chuttering his teeth, but that's the only negative response they have with each other

I just thought that it was cute that a 5 year old Guinea pig that has only human interaction actually liked another piggy for the first time. :>

It is lovely to see guinea pigs help each other and to enjoy having neighbours. Please make sure that there are grids between them. Guinea pigs of either gender never stop being able to make babies, but the older they get, the more will go wrong.

Ear biting, nibbling or licking means that Penelope is inviting Guinea to become a member of HER group, so she is trying to establish some friendly dominance over him.
