My male guineapig of two year he is very active and healthy boy. But last month he had cut his down lips somehow like a little skin was hanging then he lost weight and was eating less . Since yesterday he is doing this again he is eating everything except grass and carrots . He's smelling those but seems like he is unable to eat , I've checked his teeth they seem okay to me , what could be the possible reason before I take him to vet . Any suggestions? Tia

Hello what a worry for you
it is better to take him to a vet to have a check as this has happened before
It could be many things
We can’t really help with diagnosis
I’d weigh him daily to check his weight loss and you might need to step in with syringe feeding if its more than 50g
Carrots are not a regular food ( high in sugar)

I’m sure more experienced members will be along to offer advice soon
Good luck

Only a vet will be able to tell you what is wrong.
They can do a proper hands on examination.

Have you tried syringe feeding him ?
Mushed pellets are good if you don’t have any syringe food.

Sorry you’re in such a worrying situation.
Hope you get a vet appointment soon.

Holding you in my thoughts

I’m sorry to hear this.
You do need to take him to the vet. We cannot tell you what is wrong.
Unfortunately you are not able to check his teeth - only a vet can do it with the correct tools (and o with the piggy sedated usually).

If he is not eating hay, please step in with syringe feeding him. Also switch from routine weekly weight checks and instead weigh him daily.

Yes I'm doing this . Weighted him he went from 800 gm to 795 . And his tummy is aching I think he isn't sitting at all . Imma take him to vet tomorrow but could it be symptoms of gi statis I'm very worried

So you are syringe feeding him.
5g isn’t considered weight loss at all, it’s within normal fluctuation. It’s only considered weight loss when it gets to 50g of loss.
If you are feeding him and he isn’t eating hay for himself then that shows you are feeding a good amount to him as his weight is entirely stable.

Is he pooping?

Unfortunately his poops are all deformed , paste like so I'm unable to figure out if he pooped as he stays with cagemates . But he's trying to eat and he is very excited to eat Unfortunately isn't eating that much as he should . I'm mostly concerned about his position .
