Hey guys , my 10 month old male guineapig has a lump under his mouth today . And being super concerned I took him to the vet . But I was disappointed at his behaviour. He didn't even check him properly and said it was tonsils due to bacteria. And now my question is does guineapig's tonsils enlarges? And does it infects others too ? He is eating well and active .

Hi

We have never come across a diagnosis of enlarged tonsils in guinea pigs in 15 years on here with literally tens of thousands enquiries.

It could be a brewing incisor root abscess or if it is sitting just a little lower a problem with one of several gland, especially the thyroid. I am very sorry not to have any better news, seeing how much stress you already have in your life.

Is it curable ? Can it be seen doing xray ?

A dental root abscess is curable if treated correctly; forum members can help you with further advice. We see plenty of them on here.

Was a fluid sample taken? If he suspects something like cervical lymphadenitis it would have to be confirmed via smear stain and I assume the vet would have given your piggy a treatment plan. I would take your piggy to an exotic licensed vet or to another vet for a second opinion.
