I am so down at the moment and things seem to be going wrong for me my 2 guinea pigs have lived in there enclosure for over a year one died and the other one has decided to learn to jump it she is peeing and pooing all over my room and chewing things we have managed to save enough money to go away in our caravan for a week after a horrible year my nan is looking after the animals but there is no way she will be able to catch her and I can't leave her destroying my room for a week I can't afford to buy a cage and have tried to modify it with no luck sorry about the rant but I just don't no what to do :(

What is your current cage/pig house like? How big and what is it made of. Perhaps someone can give you some ideas.

It's 5ft and made up of them guinea pig playpen squares they have lived fine in it for a year

You just need to make a roof out of something, hmmm... Is there any way you can find a few more squares to cover the top? Or make one out of cardboard? use holes and string to tie it down.. then your nan can just untie a few bits of string to clean and feed them and then retie them up when she's done? If you tie enough string your pig wont be able to wriggle out. its very make do and mend type of stuff but in a huge pinch it might work? Make sure to test it before you go for a week or something so you know if problems are going to happen whilst your out.

I find that carboard can rip easily if you tie the string REALLY tight. So maybe a sheet of plastic is better, but I'm not sure where you could find one dirt cheap other than a market at the end of the day or ask a supermarket shelf packer if they have anything strong that the supplier uses to strengthen deliveries. I always get loads of cardboard from them and you can double or triple it up to make a sturdy lid.

But the let down is you will have much less light coming top down. Is there anywhere in your room you can put the cage so they can get more light to the side of the cage?

I won't be able to make a lid my nan has arthritis I think I may have found an old cabinet I can put on its back as a tempory measure typical isn't it everything goes wrong all at once :)
