I have been looking into making my own fleece cubes and cozies for my pigs. I just wanted to know if there are any websites where I can find cheap cotton and fleece and what I should use as an absorbent layer in my pads.
Thank you :)

I buy most of my fleece from eBay. You can usually get a meter for £6 depending on pattern and with free postage from some sellers too.

I've made some of my own liners before but prefer separates with my large cage due to the amount of pee they manage to produce. The only beds I've made so far are cuddle sacks and I used a video from YouTube as a guide. You don't need to stuff the sacks as its just a double layer of fleece.
I'm going to have a go at making a cube or triangular house soon but I'm sure what it looks like In my head and what it will look like In real life will be two different things. I've got some wadding to add structure and will possibly make a vetbed or fleece pad for the inside to keep it a bit cleaner.

I seem to have a sight addiction to buying fleece, I love all the different patterns

Haha pimm. I am addicted to fleece buying too.

sugar@spicepiggies does great videos about making guinea pig fleece items. She is amazingly talented.

I found zorb to be the best absorbent layer. It is lovely and absorbent and very light weight. I bought it online somewhere. It is quite pricey.

I buy my fleece mostly from B&M, The Range, Asda etc... I am trying to construct my own version of a little house soon, have bought some foam for the structure - will post pics if it works :lol!:

I have found all the supplies I need except for the absorbing layer I looked into zorb but I find it too expensive does anyone have a better alternative?

i use proper incontinence bed sheets for my absorbent layer..

You could also use towels or cotton mattress protectors. I'm tempted to get some face cloths to try and make pee pads with but I'm not sure how my machine would react to sewing through the layers if its really thick.

Our modern machine struggled with the layers, but the good old fashioned one sailed through it! :D

I use towels as my absorbent layer for fleece liners that I have sewn. For fleece beds I tend to just use batting and change the beds quite regularly. Like other have said I have heard good things about using mattress protectors as and absorbent layer. If you are sewing using thick materials make sure that you use a really thick needle as this will help to sew through the layers. I am currently using a denim needle and have had no problems so far.

Hubby used fleece, wadding mattress protector then another layer of fleece. The wadding & fleece comes from The Range & the 100% topped protector from Tesco

I've got my mums old Bernina from the 70s, I might give it a go. I've got some 100 size needles might check what the strongest ones are I can get and use towels :D
