I think that's what she's called. I have 3 sows and I am used to sheltie and short haired but never had one like this before, if feels afro and even though its short it's all knotty. I have her a bath and now I'm thinking how on earth is her hair going to be? Do I need to put coconut oil in it, I'm not sure what to do? My sheltie stays tangle free after baths, please help (should I not bath her). I've attached some pictures straight after their bath and towel dry. The first is practically dry as she is short haired, the 2nd is sheltie but as you can see it's all tangle free but the 3rd I can't understand what happened?

Usually, bathing causes knots to tighten so I would avoid bathing unless very dirty and just do bum baths if possible. With the long curly coats, grooming by hand is usually best instead of brushes and combs, go through the coat with your fingers and gently tease out loose tangles. If you do this daily there shouldnt really be any knots, its more just separating the curls and tufts from eachother to prevent matting. If mats do form it's better to just cut them out and start from scratch given how sensitive their skin is. Also depending on how you dry them you can form knots in the hair, I've noticed towel trying my Texel makes tangles more likely, so I use a hair dryer and go between drying and gently rearranging the hair again by hand to remove knots then go back to drying etc. One of the few brushes I've heard good things about are tangle teezers so it might be worth trying although I've not used one myself as I find doing it by hand easy enough.

Thanks guys, the picture is helpful because I assumed it would be neat curls but it more thick and bubbly cute looking. I will try the finger comb and not bath her xx

Betty is a Lunkarya. Her coat constantly looks knotty but, if I brush her, they aren't knots just a messy coat!

I cut her quite short, not particularly pretty but more manageable. I've never given her a bath either!
