Hey everyone!

I have never dine this before and need some tips. I have just today got a new little friend for my Barney, he is a lunkarya and he is 9 weeks old. Barney is 3 and half years. I was told by a few people that this would be the best pairing at this age. Anyway, there are no rescues near enough to me, or the one's i did email didnt have nay in and to be honest with you, i didnt want to leave Barney on his own for too long.

I have a 2 tiered cage and Melvin (i think i will call him...!) is separated away from Barney in the top, with fresh bedding, bowl, drink bottle etc, although i didnt clean the cage with disinfectent etc... Should I?

I was on the phone in my room, where my piggies are and my sister came in had a quick nosy in the cage, walked out, a minute later i heard the annoyed high pitched squeaking Barney did when Bertie my other one was pestering him/getting on his nerves and i looked and somehow he had managed to get into the top part of the cage! They WEREN'T fighting or anything and immediately I picked barney up and put him in his bit of the cage. He had his head held higher, and it happened that fast I cant really remember much else, as picked barney up straight away. He must have been there for a few minutes as my sister said that she saw Barney in the top part of the cage (but didnt know little Melvin was there too so she didnt think to tell me) I hope I havent messed the pairing up?

What should be my next step in introducing them to each other? I have heard bathing the youngster so his mother's scent isnt still on him or is that bol****s? Obv i dont want to cause him any distress as he's still quite a nervous little hidey pig!

He is hiding under the under cover part of the cage and hasnt really ventured out of there since I brought him back at 1ish today.

Oh and heres a few pics of thr little squishey :)

The introduction is happening right now! It's goin well do far :) they have been together in the run on my bedroom floor for about 40 mins. Barney dint even seem too bothered when he first met him he juust went straight for the hay lol Been chasing and mounting, rumbling, squeaking and chasing each other. Barney is popcorning too!
Melvin is still a little nervous. There is veg out and neither seems possessive, they seem happy to share, although baby Melv reverses till he gets to a wall when he picks things up sometimes out of the way.

What happens after this then? When I put them back should i separate them or keep them in the same cage? Everything was cleaned out yday, however not todayso each floor will have their own scent on it etc, what should i do?

Thanks xx

Now its mainly just Barney who does the chasing. The littleun does appt of squeaking while he's being chased, then when they stopped Melv was still doin quite a lot of squeaking at Barney... Then barney just resumed eating hay. is this still ok?

If everything is clean with no ones scent more than the other, then you could try them in cage yes.

What amazing hair!!
