Help With Housing!

Above is a top view of my housing when I just had the one piggie she used the side with bedding for eating and toile ting and the clean/play side sometimes to sleep (usually has a hidey in it)she also sleeps under the ramps. But since her new baby roommate came and they don't like to sleep together the left side without bedding is usually messy now with poos. Is it better to just put bedding on that side also? And put food there too? I was used to my solo piggie having her spots to toilet in but now it's just chaos lol

It happens with piggies! You could go for fleece all over and pop a hay tray in?

Thank you, been going back and forth on whether I want to go with fleece option. But my main concern is is it ok if that entire cage has bedding? Does that eliminate a "play" area?

When you say bedding what are you using? We have Woodshavings in our 2x7 C&C and they have wooden houses/pigloos in there.

We keep their fleecey stuff cosies, tunnels etc for there run time at weekends when they spend the weekend in a bog fleece run.

I use paper bedding have to buy some fleece copies haven't found them in stores by me yet

You could just use fleece for the whole cage. I have vet bed for my cage and remove poops twice a day.

I don't know how much this will help but in the last 6 months I have tried....
Wood shavings - made piggie sneeze...
Megazorb - really good but smells strong when filling 6x2

Auboise - hemp based, stuck round his boar bits and bum, a little sharp I thought too

Back to nature - great but expensive

Care fresh - great but more expensive

Combinations of auboise with a paper based cat litter (bio cat) top layer - this was good but made room smell sickly sweet.

Best bet was 1 and half of megazorb with an inch of carefresh as it covered the smell and cut down on cost...

However we are now trying fleece as care fresh is quite expensive.

I should also say he has straw and paper bedding for his houses...

Thanks for this - very interesting post and has saved me some experimenting in the future!

You might find Fitch a good one for you? I didn't check where you are but I've set up a thread a while ago which has people who are interested in sharing a bulk order of Fitch (price is cheaper the more you buy) and live close enough to each other to do this.
