My boyfriend and I have two guinea pigs who normally live in a 2x4 c&c cage with a 2x1 loft. But every few weeks we go to visit our parents in another town an hour and a half away and don't know anyone who lives here that can take care of our piggies. We have a pet store bought cage so I was wondering if we can take our two guinea pigs with us for the weekend and have them live in the store bought cage, just for the weekend. Or would that cause fights or sickness with them? What do you all suggest? Thanks!

Hi Maddie. Welcome to the forum. The boys could fight being in a smaller space and with a new home they can try to establish the hierarchy again.

How well bonded are they? Also how old are they and what sex are they? Most piggies will be fine, although some may scuffle more than others. Boys need more space than girls especially if they are in the hormonal teen years?
I know my 2 girls squabbled allot more in the shop bought cage than they do in their c&c cage... but i think most piggies would be ok for a week end... How big is the shop bought cage? 120cm, 140cm?

I'm sorry, I wasn't clear, that is my fault. We just built our c&c cage and have yet to get our piggies. We are going on Thursday to look at three pairs of bonded guineas at our local shelter. There are two male pairs and a female pair who have been bonded their whole lives as far as I'm aware. We are just trying to plan ahead or when we do have to travel to our parents. The store bought cage is as large as you can get at the pet store I believe. They would only be in it for the weekend. If we give a good amount of floor time while out of town, will that help their bickering? Thanks again and sorry for the misunderstanding!
